Hi All
As someone who has to struggle to qualify for ESA and finally got my decision overturned and payment backdated just over 8 weeks ago I always take an interest in the subject of this benefit. Whilst i was worrying about decison however, nobody knew or could give me any advice on this subject and seemed to turn a deaf ear/blind eye...
Anyhow was talking to my niece this mornning, she has hardly ever worked a day in her life, her OH same.....Her sister who has worked and has had to fight a nasty empployer in highands for maternity pay (she gave birth about 4 months ago).....It turns out she had gone to an ESA tribunal as at time she was pregnant, nobody would have employed her (she wasnt looking anyway as has 3 kids now).....She was encourgaed to apply for higher rate of ESA and rightly didnt get it - I REITERATE THIS AND STAND BY MY STATEMENT, PREGANCY IS A CHOICE, NOT AN ILLNESS.......Why is it these things come out and theyre all kept secret at the time.....
I was well n truly gobsmacked but am so glad she didnt get her claim rewarded....

The ESA would only apply if your sister was ill, not if she was healthy and pregnant. Your right, pregnancy isn't an illness and isn't treated as such. I suppose she could apply, but if she's well she wouldn't get it no one would, telling the truth. Sue0

Hi What is ESA? My hubby gets all his through army so unsure what benefits are. He did once try and claim for disability benfit but was turned down because he was not bad enough??? He couldn't dress himself, hardly work or stand at the time.....does make you wonder how some people get theses extra benefits.
I am still working at present but i am terrified at the thought of trying to claim as and when i am not able to work. Hopefully this will not be for a good few years but noone can tell you how arthur will progress. How do people get these extra benfits?
Opps fogot to say well done for getting yours and it is a shame they made you go through all this to get what is rightfully yours.0 -
Hi Lupin
ESA is Employment and Support Allowance...Its supposed to support those who cant work and replace incapacity.....However its very complex, i mean to me your OH sounds like he should have got DLA but nothing the government do seems to make sense now...
I think the way some people get extra benefits is shameful, such as my niece who hasnt worked for a very long time, to put it politely she could milk a dry udder...Some are streetwise and know all ways to get round systsems, others are honest and get sweet fa...

Are right...so just changed the name and made it bloody impossible to get unless you lie...oppss is that to blunt ????
We do fostering and just found out today that we can get me to you vouchers for our wee man. This means we can use them for things like after school clubs (which we have been paying for) and swimming lesson etc. We have to find out more tomorrow. If it had not been for this woman we know who works at the school noone would have told us about this. It is true some people know about the system and what is available. I am afraid i come from a back ground were you worked to pay your bills and do not sponge out the state. Before anyone says anything...i am not saying anyone on this site is doing that. Noone in the right mind would want arthur that is for sure. I am off to have a cafine free coffee and some Nougat before i say any more...0
