I forgot to mention in my previous post "CONFUSED" that I am only 5 feet tall and weigh only 7st. 8 lbs. Been reading that this might be an issue if opting for Hip Resurfacing - anyone heard this? I think it's something to do with the size of the fitted parts and the weight is too much if for lighter people.

hi Poppy. Did you manage to get on that web site I put on your last posting?
I found it very useful and if ' I knew then what I know now'
I would have done things differently.
Quite honestly it's not worth going through all the pain again with a re-surface and heaven knows what it's going to cost the NHS to put it right.

Let us know what you decide please.

    Ooh Poppy

I would have thought they would do 'diferrent' sizes surely? Loads of us are only juust over 5' and some are even smaller - then there are those who are over 6ft :?

I hope someone with some info gets on soon.

    Love

Hello, I'm no medic, but I'd have thought it would be a lot easier if you're lighter, not so much weight for it to bere. Or do they mean that its an op thats better for heavier people and they may suggest something else for you? I'd go and discuss this with either my rhemmy or my gP. As you say it seems strange, maybe someone else here will know. Love Sue xxx

Hi Poppy, I'm 5'2, not as light as you (at the time of my op I was 8 1/2 stone) and I had a hip resurface-replacement. Successful in the short term (only had it in May so can't comment on the long term) I also have a THR on the other side - had it 13 years ago and it is still going strong. I have better strength and movement on the resurface side.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Speedy

I don't know from your name if you are male or female so could you just confirm that you are a girlie person? If so, did your surgeon mention any of the possible problems, breaking femur or increased iron levels and do you think hip resurfacing will be better than THR if it stays put?

    Hi Poppy,

I think your will be fine flower a lot of people are your size and they do well with either the resurface or replacements.

Speedy is a girl by the way and I think my rumo said that resurfacing is better if its an option? I don't remember cus he was saying o much. Maybe a chat with your consultant or g would help you to decide? Info... that's what you need. I kinda think understand your enemy  ..... Cris x
