Hi
Hope you are all doing ok. I`ve not been on much this week, so not caught up with all posts, sorry, as I have done 2 days (half) at work this week and it has wiped me out!
I am diasppointed at how tired and how much discomfort I have been left with after just 2 short days. :( My boss has referred me to occy health, but not heard anything yet. My chair etc were sorted for me when i went back to work just after my THR, but although it is supposed to be ok for me, my hip, back and groin are very sore after sitting there for a while. I need ot move around more often, but it is difficult when the phone keeps ringing! And then at the end of my `shift` , driving home is bad. I`m sorry to moan, but I am feeling sorry for myself and in pain.
I am worried about this, as my hours will increase over the next 3 weeks, and I am not sure how I will manage. Everyone at work is being helpful, but they are soooo busy, I don`t want to make things worse. I thought that things would be a lot better by now, and do wonder if this is as good as it is going to get?
Thanks for reading , if you haven`t given up by now!! Just needed to let it out.
NB

I know this is easy for me to say, but give it time. You have had major surgery followed by a major setback: there is a big difference between sitting around at home twiddling one's thumbs and thinking 'God I want to be back at work, this is soooooooo dull.' and then discovereing the reality of being back at work. Just ease yourself back into it as best you can. It will take time, things will get better, of that I am sure. I wish you well. DD

    Hi NB, hope you're ok?
I am surpised at Occy Health not being totally on the ball with things. They really helped my OH after being off for 15 month after being diagnosed with heart failure.. Hope they get thier finger out soon and things start to get better for you.

    Hi NB,

I can totally identify with all of this - exhaustion, pain again and how it makes you feel ... I'm exactly the same at the moment.

Would it be possible for you to have a walkabout phone so that you an walk up and down and talk? Not sure if enough space in office or whether this is practical - but too much sitting is dire. You are probably too tired to go for a walk before driving home and just want to collapse in the car, but perhaps if you got to work even 5 to 10 mins early you could have a walk before having to sit at your desk.

Is there anyway you or your boss can chivvy occy health - perhaps they could give you a cancellation or mark you as urgent?!

    YOurs-in-the-same-boat,

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi there NB

Sorry things are a bit difficult for you at the moment at work.
Your employer seems to be a nice person trying to get things to make it easier for you and your work colegues sound understanding too.

I am sure itis a big effort for you and this extra effort will makeyo feel tired and fed up.

I keep my fingers crossed that things get easier for you soon ,
don't know what else to say except probably give it time.

    Take care
Hugs (((((((((((((())))))))))) and here sit down and drink this

    a nice glass of wine.

    Hi
    Thanks everyone for your replies.
    (and empathy from Speedy xxx)
I am still taking pain relief , Naproxen twice daily and paracetamol. And Amitriptiline if needed.
The day after I still feel sore, but I am keeping going as I seize up if I sit for too long and my lower back locks. (I`m an old crock at 41!!)
We used to have cordless phones in old offices, and have talked about them again this week. Not sure if they will get them again. I am going to check up on Occy health next week when I am in again.
Before my hip dislocated I could `forget` I had a THR at times, but not any more, my socket and pelvis are always letting me know its there. This is what I was hoping would improve.
Thanks for the very good Idea about a glass of wine Julie, I might just do that later!! Cheers!!
    Have a nice evening xx

    Hi NB

I know exactly what you mean... I felt OKish at home 13 weeks after my THR, but it was a different ball game completely when I went back to work and had to do different movements (or sit in one place for more than 15 minutes)..

I hope you can get some rest and recouperation over the weekend..

    Take care

    Hi NB :D

so sorry you're having a tough time with returning to work. :(
and I hope that occy health will get into gear and reassess your phased return to take account of the pain and discomfort of sitting at your desk for such long periods.

There is nothing to stop your employers extending or changing the phased return agreement/ hours/ workload. They have a clear duty to respond to your needs as you are covered by the DDA.

I had to have adjustments made to my phased return last year as I too had issues when I returned to work.....

it's really not difficult for them to put in place a plan that will provide you with greater support, but you might have to make it clear what would help you .

Hope things will get better for you soon and that the pain in your hip eases.

    (((hugs)))

    Hi Nearly,
Sorry that you are suffering so much. I just hope that things do get easier as time goes on. Not much help as I have not had a replacement. You must feel so tired through it.

    Sending you a hug,

    Hi
Thanks for all the lovely comments and support.
I am feeling sore today especially when climbing the stairs. This is probably not helped by me slipping on wet leaves on the pavement  I hate this time of year!!
As a result my sciatica is playing up and I have awful pain going down from back to feet!! Great eh? I have taken my painkillers and am hoping for some relief as I am designated driver for taking the kids and friends to cinema to see harry potter (I am not watching it, just dropping off, I couldn`t manage the seats for hours!!)
I will try to have a restful day apart from that.
    Take care all xx

    Hi NB,

sorry you've now had a fall on top of everything else. I know what you mean about the slippery leaves!

hope you have something effective for the nerve pain. :?: and please be careful about being the one on driving duty.. hope it doesn't aggravate the sciatica even more.

rest when you can and fingers crossed the pain eases today.

    Hi Nearly,

Sorry you have slipped as well flower... have you got anything for the nerve pain? Ordinary pain killers don't often work for that.....

You said have said I would have taken them and watched it

Rest up till you have to go and try and get comfortable. Leaving you a ((( ))) and a hope it will all get easier for you. Cris xx

    Hi Cris. Iris and Joan
Thanks for your messages. I took a higher dose of amitriptiline last night on top of my usual meds, which resulted in me being almost comatose last night!!
I have been out with my daughter doing a bit of Christmas shopping today, which was nice ot have a bit of mum and daughter time, but I am paying for it now. It feels like my joint is too high up in the socket, with broken glass in it. Ouch!! Sound familiar ??
So a restful night and day off tomorrow.
Have a good night all xxx
