I may go on but please bear with me.
I have had a mobility disability since I was 11, not arther, which has always given me pain, they have been treating it on and off over the last 20 years. Aprox 5 years ago they also found arther, which they have left untreated ad the other illness made it imposable to do so....or so I was told.
I recently found that my first illness is significantly improved, yet I am still on morphine because of the pain.
My main question is could arther (giving me the knee joint of an 80 year old at 30) be causing so much pain that I need morphine or is my brain creating pain that is no longer there from my other illness??
I know you may not be able to answer this but I just feel confused!! Can untreated arther cause this much pain. Please consider I have never let the pain stop me and have a full life, I use crutches to walk, but I get on with life.
COULD THE ARTHER BE THE CAUSE OF THIS PAIN!!
Sorry if I am going on. I have a child with arther so know it is painfull but have always been lead to believe that the arther should not be this bad! :(
PLEASE HELP AND OFFER ADVICE

Hi Lucysmum, sorry that you're in so much pain, I know how that is.. Sadly, yes, it can be extremely painful, earlier this year I thought I had broken my leg somehow without realising, it was an arthur flare up..
I couldn't take the morphine tablets for more than 3 days, made me too ill, but am on a lot of strong painkillers every day, been on painkillers for the last 15 or so yrs, every day..

Hope it eases for you soon, could just be a flare and will hopefully settle down for you..

Thank you sooo much. To be honest I thought I was going crazy as the first illness now apears in remission so really thought I was going crazy!!
Due to all the years of pain I have been on everything and morphine was the last option, I guess my body is used to taking painkillers so asside from feeling tired at times I manage on them and they help me alot!!
Thanks for putting my mind at ease. Hopefully the docs will now attempt to treat my arther and see it as serious, I have a joint 50 years older than the rest of my body!!!! lol

No problem, hopefully you are under a specialist and they will be sorting you some treatment out.

    Good luck

    Hi

Arhtitis can be very very painful!!

I take it you are trying to stop taking the morphine? If the pain is in the joints affected by the arthur then the answer would have to be maybe surely?

Have you had the type of arthrtitis diagnosed yet? If so have you had any specific meds for it? Are you taking any anti-inflamatories?

    Love

Hi, when arther is doing his worst/at the final stages it is very painful.
I have OA and when surgery was the only answer and I was waiting for the op - nothing helped and I was in pain whether resting or doing and couldn't sleep because of it.

Is surgery planned for your knee?

Are you taking meds for the arther? With a proper meds review - may well be possible to switch meds to a different cocktail, which would get you off the morphine.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Hi as i said before I had another underlying condition which perviously was blamed for the pain and which also makes surgery difficult. I have been on no pills for this condition and offered no help at all since it was discovered almost 5 years ago. My knee joint was that of an 80 year old then and only getting worse. I am hoping that I will now be treated for the arther, maybe this is the answer to my prays of being out of pain for the first time in 20 years!!!!
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT, I REALLY THOUGHT I WAS CRACKING UP!!!!
