anyone get numb fingers?

My little finger and the next one in and in both hands get completely numb at night. Wakes me up and I have to shake them. Doctor says it's the wrong fingers for carpal tunnel and is more likely arthritis. I notice my wrists on the inside are swollen so think that may be the cause.
Btw, for those who don't know, I've got sero-ve inflammatory arthritis (but all the consultants write RA on the letters....?)
Anyone else get this and what have you been told?

Hi Sal, I was diagnosed with sero-negative this march in my wrists, it's another form of rheumatoid arthur.. I get a lot of tingling, numbness and pain in my little fingers and the ring fingers. Also the thumbs.. Carpal tunnel affects the first two fingers I think..
Was put on hydroxychloroquine straight away but it's not done much to be honest, due back this month.. Sometimes my whole hands and wrists henry like hell, especially in the mornings.

Thanks Tony, my posts seem to be disappearing again! Apologies if this is repeated.0

I don't know why that post of mine said 'henry' like hell
I was typing it on my mobile and the screen is obviously smaller than the pc, haha..
I meant hurt like hell... Bet you wondered what the hell I was on about?Me-Tony

used to typos! we all make them.
Do you get the numbness every night? It wakes me up, annoyingly. Will talk to rheumy nurse when I see her next week. Def not carpel tunnel.0 -

Hello Salamander
I have had the same problem as you and I think it is quite common in inflammatory arthritis because swelling and inflammation in the wrists can cause the nerves to become compressed. In my case, once the inflammation was under better control, the numbness disappeared. I hope this will be the case for you too.

Thanks Tilly and Tony,
Tilly, that makes complete sense and is what my doctor has told me. What I don't understand is why it only happens at night. Must be something to do with the why I sleep I suppose.0 -
Hi Sal, Tilly.. Can I ask if you both have swelling in your wrists? I know you said you've got treatment tilly but before it was under control?
I've never had any swelling at all, I know we're all different like..

Hi Sal,
Oh flower I got that one as well. Mine hurts but i numb if that makes sense?
I got swelling in the wrists and have been tested for CP which I haven't got. I haven't mentioned it to anyone so will either remember to and let you know or watch what they tell you
I see the rumo this month so will endeavor to ask.....
Hope it will soon ease off for you and leaving you a ((((( ))))) and stay warm cus the colder they get the more they hurt eh? Cris xx0 -
Hi all I'm new here but came across this post and I get numbness in my little finger and ring finger on my left hand I have been diagnosed with suspected polymyalia rhumatica along with other probs and I mentioned this to my doctor and she just put it down to my condition I also find that those numb fingers often are very cold. sorry for butting in btw0
-
thanks Cris and Sharri,
You are not butting in at all! The more the merrier on this site. I'll look up your condition and see what it says. Maybe I've got that too.Am sero -negative so they don't really know what type of arthritis I have.
Hi Cris, nice to hear from you! I've been keeping a low profile for a while. Be interesting to hear what rheumy says. I bet you are very cold down in Cornwall. My father said it was -11 when he got up this morning, he lives in Devon. Brrrr! It's not great here, even dressed up in my warmest clothes I am frozen but found a (fake) vintage Astrakahn coat in my local charity shop this morning for a pittance. It is very heavy. I used to have one in my 20's and it was very warm. Perhaps I'm regressing :? wouldn't surprise me!! How are you doing anyway?
Sal xx0 -
Hi sal
love the idea of the Astrakhan coat :!: enjoy wearing yours!
I don't get numbness in my fingers even when the wrists were swollen...but do get numbness in my feet and toes  weird eh?

ps... welcome to the forum sharri0 -
Hi Sal, Tony, Cris, Sharri and Iris.
Welcome to the forum Sharri
Sal, I think it's quite common for the numbness to occur at night (that was the often the case for me if I remember rightly). Not sure why that should be though.
Tony, I am lucky in that even when my RA is not under control I have minimal swelling. My fingers tend to swell quite a bit, but the other joints, even when very inflamed show little swelling. It really does seem that everyone is affected differently doesn't it?
Love Tilly xxx0 -
Hi folks my hands and elbows are giving me pain...hands started yesterday putting it down to the bad weather and doing too much. I get like electric shock pains in my hands, and then a dull ache. Not sure what mine is but assuming it is arthur as i have it in my back and hips. I must admit is has driven me mad today.0
-
Hi Iris, Lupin & Tilly, so numbness is a common problem then Nobody mentioned it in the leaflets! I've got swelling on the inside of my wrists as well as the outside. It feels like muscle or tendon. Hmmmm!0
-
Hi all, hi to the newbie sharri too..
Seems your right Sal, there are a few of us 'handys' on here eh?
Lol
I just wish it would go away, nothing seems to get rid of it for me, my thumb right now feels like it's half on fire and half being electrocuted, no doubt the fingers will start in a minute.. I have to wear splints when doing anything but not sure if that helps the numbness (pain) or makes it worse.... Kinda both sometimes..
Got some good news today though, I chased my Rheumy appt up, at first they said he was 5 month behind and it would be sometime next yr! I told her I was struggling with my hands a lot and the hydroxy doesn't seem to be helping, she said, can you come on the 17th of this month.... I'm there with bells on that's for sure... Will post regarding the outcome..
Also got my appt through for the spine injections at the pain clinic today, I am a popular chap, everyone wants to hang out with me 23rd of this month though, and not sure if it's an overnight job, will have to clarify, and would like to know what happens after them, not had them in the spine before, had a few epidurals in the past though, they're lots of fun
Hope we're well tonight everyone

Tis been hideously cold flower and add in the windchill and I actually thought i couldn't survive it lat Saturday! Hate the cold and yep it was -7 here early evening and what it ended up being I have no idea..... got deep permafrost which might help the flooding eh?!
Like you the wrists are swollen and mine is the first finger n each hand and the ring fingers as well....they also hurt and twitch but I have the pa in my hands as well as the wrists elbows and shoulders and let's not forget the neck... though who knows which does what in that
You stay warm flower and mind your self cus its got very slippy. Hope your Dad also has this thaw... its above freezing tonight Sal ((((( ))))) and a cuppa Cris xx0 -
Hi Cris, yes, am enjoying the thaw. It is positively warm out today! It's going to get cold again next week I'm sorry to say. Another 10 days of cold apparently. I'm being really careful outside, hope you are too. I know it's hard for you to take it easy but do if you can.
love S
xx

I am also getting a lot of pain in and around my thumb, my wrists hurt but mainly when I use them, twisting is the worst. The hands and fingers just hurt all the time now.. This only started recently, hope they have answers when I go..
