Hi everyone goood news all my heart scan showed no abnormalities, will keep me going a good few years yet
Bad news I had my op 24th September now I wonder what on earth they have done :!: :!:
The last two weeks I have been to the docs twice after finding stitches which had been left in my toe :?: :?:
I assumed and it was written on a form from the consultant that I was having a op called a Jones procedure on my big toe, which in turn would mean I would have to have my big toe fused, well from what I can see and on my discharge form there is no mention of the Jones op. What the op was for (nothing to do with arthur) is I had a triple fusion on my foot in 2008, since having that my big toe has not laid flat( would stick up slightly and would rub on my footwear also painful). Well been to the gp today and he thinks I have just had it fused as well, all I keep thinking why have they fused my toe if not done the other procedure, and the big toe sticks up more than ever.
Has any one had a toe fusion if so does the toe eventually lay down. I am not at the orthaepedic clinic till February I am not very happy about it at all.
Back at work tomorrow after 10 weeks off wish me luck
My rant is now over appologises.
Take care all Junex

I am not surprised you are not happy - can you, or should you, chase up the surgeon and find out what he actually did? If they haven't done the procedure they said they would then that is not a good thing. We trust these people to do the correct operations - I know that things can go wrong, human error is a possibility but you need to know, don't you? Oh joon, I am so sorry, what a bother.
Are you sure about going back tomorrow? We've had steady snow all day here in Ipswich and the town is gradually grinding to a halt, but I think 'they' said at lunchtime that the west of the region was basically unaffected. Anyhoo, good luck for tomorrow. Let us know how you get on, please. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
I thought of getting in touch with the consultant but then what can she do, I saw the gp and he said it still looks inflammed and it might go down some more, cannot see it myself, but who am I. Decided to go back to work tomorrow as it is only half a day and I shall test the water she how my body copes, I'm also trying to cut down on the pred, how are you managing are you still cutting down? Its surprising how those mg make such a big difference, all we can do is try.0

Oh Joon, it does seem as if something is not right after your toe op doesn't it? I do hope you can get to the bottom of what's actually been done.
As you say, good news about the heart scan though.
And as for cutting down on the pred, it IS hard isn't it? I'm doing the same and you are so right that even a small reduction can make a huge difference.
Good luck at work tomorrow. I will be thinking of you.

Hi joon, yes I am down to 7.5mg per day, which is better than a smaller amount but nowhere near enough. I will give that another week, then take it down one further step. I must get some 1mg pills, I only have 5s and 2.5s, so any drop is quite marked. I think this level is too far down to cope with another 2.5 drop - only 5mgs per day will not work, or at least that is my gut reaction. Ain't life grand? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Yes, fused toes do stick up! In order for you to roll forward onto your, now fused, toe when walking, the toe is raised a few degrees and the joint above acts and moves to complete the step.
Mine sticks up, i usually buy a size bigger shoe with plenty of room in. Unfortunately, my other joints in my feet are involved with arther as well now, so a pair of trainer type shoes with thick padding is best whilst still giving some firm support. The other sore bit is when the moving toes rub against the non-moving toes, I use plasters to stop them rubbing when I try and go a bit further.
My other foot has just a 'space' after the new joint had to be removed after they found I had osteoporosis and the new bone hadn't grown around the inplant, hey ho.
I know, I know, one leg, one good eye and they call me lucky, woof woof!

NOt surprised you are ranting June ... Do you have a check up/follow up coming? If not I think you should request one - you have questions that need answering and the op doesn't sound as if it has done what it was supposed to do!!
Great news about your heart though.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi DD and Tillytop, I have managed to get to 6mg feeling a bit achy and shoulder hurting slightly will stay on 6mg another week, it is a very slow process. DD I would definately get some 1mg, I think you have been on a much higher dose than me I was on 7.5mg for about 12 weeks think it was to help me over the op will see what happens tomorrow after work. Tilly what mg have you managed to get down to.
Airwave Hope you can help me with a couple of questions. Can you wiggle your big toe? and did you have physio? Going to sound stupid now are there different types of fusions, think I read somewhere that some people have pins in the tip of toes, I have no pin I have a screw. This is the op printed on my discharge paper First metatarsal dorsal wedge osteotomy with interphalangeal fusion big toe.
Thanks for the help Junex
Speedalong My checkup is in Feb my gp seems to think it might go down a bit more he is also getting me some physio, just hope I don't have to wait to long, mind you I need some cooling off time.x0 -
Hi Joon
can't help you with your toe fusion questions but just wanted to send you some healing (((hugs))) and hope that you can get advice from the ortho about the procedure and what the likely outcome is in terms of movement etc.
could you phone the ortho clinic and speak to someone there? Feb is a long way off if you're worried and in discomfort with it.

Hello again June.
As you say cutting down the pred IS a very slow process but well done for getting down to 6mg! I'm now down at 15mg daily and it's a bit of a struggle, but this is the lowest dose I've been on for a while so I really want to stick with it if I can. Like you, I think I'll stay on this dose for another week and then see what's what.
I really hope you get your physio appt through soon.
Love Tilly xxx0 -

Evening my first day back was very tiring finished at 1 oclock came straight home, I only work 5mins away by car luckily someone I work with picked me up and dropped me off. My foot and toe didn't give me any trouble just started to ache in shoulders and legs got up this morning and my left forefinger was all inflammed and very painful, if thats all I have I consider myself very lucky when I read what alot of you go through. I just put my feet up when I got home just after 1 and had a couple of cat-naps, had a lay in this morning didn't get up till nearly 10. Glad I went back for half a day, next week might be hard will wait and see how it goes.0
