All will be well - it IS soon but that is good - no wondering what is goinmg to happen all over Christmas.
I always feel better when I know what is going to happen and when.
I like a good plan
If you want us on pocket duties I am sure it can be arranged

Hi beckie
I don't know what a hip assessment at ortho entails... but there are others on the forum who do.. and I'm sure will help you with information and re-assurances.
It's good though that you'll now get a clear picture of what can be done from the experts!

ps...I'll report in for pocket duties too on the 13th!0 -
Thanks for that guys
The letter says that I will be assessed by an orthopaedic GP who will decide which way to go from here.
It will be nice to know what they are thinking and planning but I am worried cause when my GP examined me, when she was moving my leg the pain made me go through the roof and I am a big wuss when it comes to pain :-(

Hi Beckie,
I really hope it goes well for you and though its silly to say this try not to be nervous.
I also shall be there for pocket duties and so hope it all goes well.
As to what they do I don;t know... my rumo puled my legs about a bit and asked me if I wanted to go on the list for a double replacement but I a so lucky that mine have lost a huge amount of movement but compared to the back and neck they don't really hurt so I reckon I would be better keeping them..... I also have complications cus f the back and neck.
Shall be with you and we are well trained in keeping quiet in the pockets Cris x0 -
Hi Beckie
Just reporting for pocket duty and hoping it goes well for you. When I had my first assessment the ortho asked questions first, as to pain levels and what my symptoms were. He will have the notes from your GP but do tell him again. Not sure if you have already had an x ray but he may well send you for one if not. He then had me lay on my back and he moved the legs to see how much mobility in the hips was there but will hopefully do so gently if you have told him how much pain you have. If like me you can't lay on your back without keeping a knee bent tell him. He could tell quickly what I found uncomfortable and didn't push it.
Assume your chap will do something similar before advising you what he recommends but any decisions are in your hands so don't feel bullied and do ask any questions. Hope you can take someone with you for support. We will be ready for pocket duties to give you some extra courage.
take care

Hi again Beckie
Since you have already had a x ray it will give them some idea of your problem but by no means all, nor does it show your pain which differs for us all but is very real and I know frightening at times and does definately NOT make you a wuss as you fear. Do explain exactly what you have said here and make it known to them BEFORE they get anywhere near you, an examination may not be necessary for them to advise. Any good doc or Consultant will be sympathetic and take the time to listen to what your symptoms and worries are and certainly wouldn't want to cause you extra pain. It is your body love, you don't have to do anything you are uncomfortable with. I send you some courage and hope it goes well for you.
Let us know how you are doing. Take care
Chris
ps Hi Jan good to meet you. We do a good line in pocket duties for everyone with scary appointments to face. Sometimes it helps to know that others are thinking of you and wishing you well. It has certainly helped me.0 -
Hi Beckie,
hope your appointment goes well. Better to have it and get it over with and know what you are dealing with than have it hanging over you for ages.
You will probably have x rays, the ortho may well move your leg around to see your range of movement and strength, he will ask questions and may well watch your gait when you walk.
Prepare by making a list of questions and bullet point things you want him to know, then try and put it out of your mind until next week.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Weeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllll went along for my first assessment on my hip today. I wasn't 100% impressed by the guy I seen .......... he asked lots of questions about exercise, what I do in my free time etc etc. I pointed out that I am carer for my 6 YEAR old daughter which involves lifting her ........ he asked her age and I said 6 he said "months"? I said no years, at which point he looked at me blank and said "you said you lift" ........... I had to explain about H 3 times :evil
ANYWAY ................................. he said he really couldn't understand why I have Osteoarthritis in my hip as I have no past injury etc. He said he can't understand the limited movement. Soooooooooooooo will refer me to phyiso
We'll see

I can understand you being a bit non-plussed with that kind of appointment.
hopefully the physio appointment will come quickly, and you will be seen by someone who is more willing to discuss your needs & tailor your treatment accordingly.
It isn't easy being a carer for a growing child when you've got any kind of arthritis is it? - I have a friend who has RA and has a disabled daughter who needs much doing for her. THere are times when my friend puts her own health at risk because her daughter needs her.
If you are struggling with certain tasks do try to explain this to the physio, as they can often suggest alternative ways of doing different movements to avoid further injury/pain.
best of luck

Hi Beckie
Just wondering how you got on and a bit of mixed bag there I think. :? Was worried about you and the pain to be honest. Hope you find the physio helpful though and don't have to wait too long for an appointment. I found that physio and hydro together did keep me more mobile so good luck with it all. Keep in touch.
