Electric Blankets

Hi Lynn
I love my electric blanket, I have a fitted one that is an underblanket, you can keep it on all night if you want. I also find it beneficial for when my joints are really sore, the warmth helps soothe them. Pay for a decent one, mine cost around £60 for a dual control. This one allows both of you to control your own side of the bed, you could have yours on while OH can switch his side off. The fire service will check them every year for safety for free as well.
Hope this helps, go get one today, you'll be converted!

My mum has always had an electric blanket, in a single size: that way my dad was unaffected by the totally un-necessary extra warmth (his words!) Buy the best you can afford. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

i couldn't manage without mine. I have an underblanket that I can leave on all night, though I rarely do. Except in recent weather. It really helps with the joints.0

HiLynn,
Great minds think alike. It was Elna mentioning her electric blanket that got me thinking. I have to make 4 hot bottles a night and what with bedtime drinks I have to line them up on the stairs and carry them up one step at a time. It takes ages and sometimes there is the ironing too!
So a blanket would make a big difference to the nightly ritual. Janie's sounds perfect so I will look into it.
I had one years ago but have been put off by the safety aspect too so a good make is essential. Janie doesn't mention where she got hers from.
Lynn PM me when you get a chance and let me know how you are,

Icant remember where I got mine from, it was online because it was cheaper.
I hope you both get one, the fitted one is much easier to put onto the bed, as the other ones have ties to secure to the bed which involves lifting the mattress up. Not a good activity for us & Arthur!

When I mentioned an electric blanket to OH some years ago he was very indignant and said it was his job to warm me up
What I'd like to know is what happens if you have an electric blanket and then get a hot flush    you could end up being wired for sound :shock:Love, Legs x

I forgot - this topic was covered recently with regard tpo memory foam mattresses - apparently a leccy blanky shouldn't be used on top of one of those. Sorry colly - I should have mentioned this before but I forgot. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

It is tempting isn't it Lynn? I will research too.

Hi Lynn
I have an electric under-blanket that can be kept on all night.... though I choose not to unless it's really cold.
It is just so lovely getting into a properly warmed bed..especially if like me you are 'solo' but like the comfort of a double bed to move around in. I find it is so soothing for the ol' bones and I couldn't be without it.
As an extra safety measure (unnecessary really, I know) I have it plugged into a plug-in circuit breaker.
 Also.. some local authorities offer a free yearly electrical safety check for electric blankets!
enjoy yours when you do get it.

Hi there everyone,
I have an electric underblanket which i absolutely could not live without! it was not massively expensive, seem to recall it was around £20 from argos with 3 heat settings. I always use it before i go to bed, but find that if i forget to switch it off it makes my joints more sore.
Sorry if that goes against the effect it has for everyone else, i know we are all different and find different methods to help our symptoms, i just thought it might be useful information. Took me a week of waking up with a back like a board before i realised it was most likely leaving the blanket on that was aggrivating my joints!

Hi Lynn
I've just ordered an electric blanket. This past week has been freezing and my hot water bottle just wasn't enough! I think they're much safer than they used to be. Just don't fall asleep with it on. I bought a Morphy Richards one online which cost about £14.99 from Amazon its a double one (free postage too).
I'm planning on getting another one for the guest room.

Are any of you fans of electric blankets? If so, do you have any hints and tips about choosing one? Underblanket, overblanket, heated mattress cover - so much choice, but clueless as to which might be the best :? Would appreciate any advice you might have. My biggest concern has always been the safety aspect, but I'm guessing most will have to have some sort of safety features on them? Would prefer not to spend a fortune (in case OH finds it too warm) but desperate, so will re-mortgage the house if necessary
Many thanks, from a teeth-chatteringly cold Cumbria
