well ........ I've cracked my resting splint

obviously I don't know my own strength  (though on the last two days evidence it isn't mighty!)

woke up suddenly in the night and turned to grab the bed stick to help me sit up. Heard a strange 'crack' sound. Puzzled over it for a while, then realised that only plastic cracks with that kind of sound

Yup - sure enough there just at the side of my knuckles, is a crack that will surely only grow ....... so I guess I will have to ring and confess to the OT that I am a vandal

Do you think there will be trouble :?: :lol::lol::lol:

she might pay me back by making a new one in bright pink :lol::lol::lol:

now dare I wear it again tonight :?:

sleep well & stop wrecking the bedroom :lol:

    Oh dear wonky

Was you having a bad dream perhaps and hit something

Well you must be either very strong or the plasic already had a slight crack somewhere in the plastic that you couldnt see.

Hope you can get a new one soon .
Flourescent pink sounds good to me, you could jut hold out your arm in the night to see where you are going , no need for the landing light

    Take care

Am I right in thinking that plastic can weaken with age? It doesn't last forever, and I guess that splints take all sorts of batterings and punishments during the course of day-to-day living. I don't think you are culpable, wonky, it's just the nature of the fragile beast that is plastic! I hope you are able to get a replacement soon - and in a colour/shade/hue you like. Diamanté ones would look fab! DD

Del you did make me :lol::lol::lol: But I wouldn't dare say that .... she'd not make me another

DD - perhaps you are right .... and she did tell me that they were strong enough to bear weight, but perhaps not mine eh? They were only made in January, so less than a year old, but it may not be coincidence that the one that has cracked is made of thinner stuff than the other one. (they were made on different visits and we didn't realise until later!)

it is working fine thanks, though I am taking more care when I need to turn over in bed ..... getting a bit paranoid about it

    Hi Wonky,

Don;t you go worrying... I sort of agree with Del as it shouldn't have broken and if you just say you woke up and found it broken you shouldn't have to be contrite at all... they should have made em stronger....

I really hope you can just phone and get a replacement? Will they have to re measure you?

Hey when I lost the toe they made me a special shoes and the 2nd one was neon pink..... I was so self conscious of the stump ( I am sorry I know i shouldn't have been but was 22ish) and to me they might as well have put a whacking great arrow at it

My third one I was asked what colour I wanted and I said blue so blue I got  Made of similar material I think if not the same so maybe you could specified colour?

More hugs and slurps and he is disgustingly slurpee cus I ate an eclair... not the same one the sheep spay out honest  Cris xxx

    Hi Wonky :D

the splint shouldn't have split unless you jumped on it from a great height.

I'd definitely let the OT know and I'm sure they won't be phased by having to make you another one
fluorescent pink sounds rather nice.. laughed at Julie PF's suggestion that it would be better than a night light!

    Hi Wonky

Just catching up and was worried for a min, like Debs I thought you had cracked a bone!!!!
Hope you are managing with it and have confessed. I rather like pink. x:))
Been minus something or other all day here, hope you have faired a tad better in your bit of Yorkshire and we have free ice skating on any pavement!!. Burst pipes at work meant a delayed tea break which was rather annoying.
You take care with that splint I fear for Mr Wonky if you turn over in your sleep.
    love and warm hugs

oh you lot know how to make a girl laugh :lol::lol:

I too fear for Mr Wonky but not because I'll clonk him with the splint  but because he is snoring away and I can't get to sleep!

the splint might come in handy yet x:))

seriously I know it won't be a problem when I ring the OT, but I am sure she will not see me until next year, so am taking great care of the splint and being nice to it whenever I can

    Hi Wonky,
well it obviously wasn't made to last! At least it proves you have been using it, definitely time to ask for replacement. Let's hope the next one lasts longer...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Oh Wonky ... I hope you can get a replacement splint soon.

I suppose that a lot of hospitals might be short staffed just now with the snowy conditions but I hope you don't have to wait too long. ..... unless of course you left your voice message with the local takeaway.:lol:
