Hi
I have an appointment to see my consultant tomorrow to review my hip following the dislocation . Also hope to find out more about the restrictions.
I have been on my phased return to work , its my 4th week. It has been difficult at times physically, and I found out yesterday that my referrals to Occy health and for workplace assessment haven`t gone through! I have had to sort it myself as my boss sent them to wrong place!
I have had an upsetting time last week, when my boss informed me she had `given` my additional responsibilities to other new members of the team. I found this tactless and hurtful, as she inferred it is because i am unreliable. Although when I questioned if this was why she tried to deny it, but couldn`t explain any other reasons. The roles aren`t physically demanding so it is not because she is concerned I couldn`t physically do the stuff.
Anyway, please keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow. I am still having issues with my hips, back and thigh pain, which i will dis cuss tomorrow.
Sorry to ramble!!

Hi nb, I am sorry that things are not too good on the phased-return-to-work front - you are not alone in that position of stuff not being ordered/sent to the wrong place: just how difficult is it, I wonder? Anyhoo, I hope all goes well for you tomorrow, I am glad you have a list. It does help to keep one's thoughts on track - and the conversation too! Let us know how you get on. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Nb
How awful of your boss, I find this below tactless, you have gone to work in pain, and really done well, why this isn't appreciated is beyond me.
Dont let them get you down, you be proud of what you have achieved, I couldn't have done what you have.
We are all behind you, and good luck with your appointment, I really do hope it goes well.
It will be a good birthday present....
Love

Hi
Thanks DD- I will keep you posted.
Thanks Barbara _ I have been very hurt by her actions and was upset most of the weekend, thinking of things I should have said at the time! I have had a few patronising comments about `oo look how well your doing` but put a pitying look with the comment and the sentiment is not quite the same.
I went back 8 weeks post dislocation, and although my GP was offering to sign me off longer, i wanted to go back and feel of use. I am not on full duties, but am doing worthwhile duties. However, after last weeks meeting, I am wondering if I should have stayed off longer, although I would have been `punished` more for doing so.
And I am looking forward to a nice weekend at christmas markets with my hubby for my birthday . Thanks x

Hi NB
Just to wish you all the best at your appointment. I am sorry that it is difficult at work for you. My daughter has just returned to work after being 2 weeks off sick with her back and totally numb toes in one foot and parts of her leg. She is on a phased return and she did two half days last week and this is her first 5 day week of 4 hours per day. She would most definitely commiserate with you. She is finding it difficult getting much done in that time. Her boss was "nice" for the two days last week, but things are back to normal this week! she knew it would not last long. She has been told to try to get up from the desk every 40 minutes to walk around. Easier said than done! Today someone is going in to tweak the pc so it will turn off every 40 minutes. She is trying not to get stressed as I am sure you are too.
Look after yourself, NB, your health comes first and that is what my daughter keeps saying to herself.

Hi NB,
I hope your appointment with your surgeon goes well tomorrow.... be sure to let us know how you get on.
I'm so sorry you've been having such a horrid time at work ....your boss should be ashamed of herself treating you that way. :x ... and they are negligent for not referring you to Occy Health. It's really not good enough.
Perhaps if you discuss this with your surgeon he will have a view about whether work is the best option for you just now?
I'm glad you've got something nice planned for the weekend for your birthday... the Xmas markets are lovely.!

Hi
I am back from seeing the consultant. I was seen by the registrar first who took a history of how things have been since the last appointment. I told him about the thigh pain, back pain, groin pain, and outer hip pain. (phew!) He examined me and confirmed my fears that he thinks the prosthesis may be loose, both stem and cup. My THR was uncemented and it should have been secure by now (22mths post op) by bone growth. So I am to have an isotope bone scan to check the bone around the prosthesis. On x ray it is difficult to assess, but he measured on screen 2 x rays of my THR and it looks like there has been about 8 mm of movement.
I also have trochanteric bursitis and have been referred for more physio, and ? steroid injection.
So I am waiting for appointments again, and hope that this does not mean my THR has to be replaced. x:(

Hi NB
I hope your appointment went ok - dreadful thing about your hip dislocation.
Some folk have no idea what it's like to be ill and what your work colleague has done sounds awful.
Take care

Hi Sharmaine
I think you must have missed my last post about my appointment. ( I won`t retype it though , too long!!)
It si one before your post.
Thanksxx

Hmmm, well at least you know something now, it may not be what you wanted to know, but it's something. I sincerely hope it doesn't have to be re-done and I hope they can deal with the bursitis. No wonder you dislocated it, if the bone growth hasn't happened. (Have I got the right end of the stick on that? You hippies are complicated people!) Obviously they don't routinely check for that sort of thing - why not, I wonder? Oh nb, as usual it's one step forwards and more than one back. Put it to the back of your mind, if you can, and enjoy your iminent birthday to its fullest. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi DD
Yes, you have the right end of the stick! Well, that is what I understand, and the thigh pain was there before the dislocation, so maybe it was a factor?? I didn`t get a chance to check it out before it dislocated, as my follow up was due after it happened. i did ask my GP about it, but they didn`t know and said to ask the surgeons.
I am in work tomorrow, and my boss is expecting to know what was said today. After last week I don`t really want to tell her what they suspect, but don`t want her to ask me to increase my duties until I`m sure what is going on . And I may need time off for the scan etc.. physio.. I will need ot tell her, but just hope she doesn`t hold it against me. I hope the occy health referral is processed quickly.
Thanks I will have a lovely birthday, I`m sure

hi NB glad you have hopefully got answers as to whats going on re pain and hip , might not make it easy but things are happening which is good xI know i am a lady ,all life is a journey xx MAY xx0

HI NB
sorry to have missed pocket duties
sorry too that work is not being as supportive as it should be - keep strong and keep asking for what you need .... and make notes of what is said to you just in case you need them later.
sorry about the news re: your hip, but at least the scan should help you to know what is really going on (finally!)
thinking of you and sending hugs
WONky xxx0 -
Hi NB,
I'm sorry that things are uncertain for you at the moment and that it wasn't better news, however it is also good to know exactly what is going on and why the dislocation happened and why you have the pain that you have. This is something they can sort out ... and so although grim in the short term, the longer term looks brighter. I don't know anything about the burstitis (SP?) but hope the physio and if necessary steriod injection make a difference.
There is no way your boss can blame this all on you (though I do have first hand experience of how idiotic bosses can be.) You do need to tell her what is going on so that you can stay on restricted duties for the time being. Has the referral to occy health now gone through? If not, can you self refer?
Take care, NB.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hello nearlyB
This is my first proper look in to the new forum & my first post so I hope I'm doing it all right!
Goodness me, as you know I also have an un-cemented joint very badly fitted October '09 so am so horrified to hear this has happened to you. The surgeon has offered to redo mine but obviously I now don't really have as much confidence in that working either so haven't decided yet.
Mine clunks & clicks too & the mobility is very poor alongside the leg being almost 1& half inches longer than other.
It does seem very strange that they do not ask us back to make sure the joint has adapted & I wonder why.
Hope I manage to post this ok -
Pennie x0 -
Hi Pennie
Lovely to hear from you xx
Sorry to hear you are still having problems. I think that what I am going through is really rare, and hope that other people reading do not get too worried. I will let you know what I find out from the scan.
Have they offered to do any other investigations before further surgery? I hope you get some positive news and are able ot move forward with this.
Take care
