American conpensation culture

Right then, people have been complaining that the orthopods won't do replacements because they smoke and their bmi is too high. Too right! How can you sashay about on a new joint and not suffer because your weight is too much for the prosthesis x:))

Then we come to the other side of the coin when professionals are worried that they'll be sued if something goes wrong. My old man is a retired lawyer and when this American idea of compensation culture came into the British radar he threw up his hands in horror.

I need to have two front bottom teeth extracted and what happened :? Told the dentist exactly what meds I was on, even gave him the Cimzia leaflet and explained that I would have to stop the Cimzia prior to an invasive procedure. He phoned the consultant rheumy and spoke to a couple of his surgeon mates. They said "she should really have the extractions at the Maxo unit down at the hos, so you'd be covered if anything went wrong" She ought to have a FBC before you do the extractions

Well absolute ****** to that . I had a FBC yesterday which was fine and I trust him implicitly, I'm certainly not going to go for him if anything goes wrong tomorrow.

Keep yourselves on pocket duty x:))

I'm brill at any ops but not quite the ticket when it comes to teeth x:(

The best of luck for tomorrow - I hate the dentist (not him personally, what they do). I have avoided them for years - I have enough pain to deal with on a daily basis, I don't want/need/won't enjoy any more! You are brave, I hope it all goes well. DD

I have a similar hate for this particular Americanism
My husband (a Dr)has been on the receiving end of more than one or two claims amazingly they always seem to be pitched at a level of compensation where it costs the hospital more in legal fees / lost Dr time to fight them than just pay up – This annoys the hell out of me 1. For people accusing my husband of wrong doing when he’s just doing his job and they just want a free holiday (one particularly lovely lady actually told him thats why she was doing it!!!) and 2. What a waste of NHS money – these timewasters should be made to pay all associated costs (legal fees, professional time etc) if they lose and made to do serious community service for the hospitals...might make them think twice about ‘claiming their ‘free holidays’ :evil
I also hated the fact that when I fell over in IKEA earlier in the year and injured my knee really badly (yay finally got orthopaedics/trauma consult on Tues) rather than help me up from where I was sprawled on the floor, the majority of other shoppers rushed over to tell me to make a claim !! x:roll:
What is the world coming to?

I'm glad I'm not alone in my hatred of this particular Americanism Chrissie x:D

I'm sorry to hear about your knee but not surprised at the gawping onlookers' reaction, something very similar happened to my friend in T****s. She slipped over on a "rogue grape" , did yet more damage to her poorly knee but thankfully has since had a TKR.

I well remember way back in the late 80's my husband was consulted by a taxi driver who wanted to fight a threatened ban for careless driving. Husband went through all the police evidence with him and told him he'd got no chance of winning his case but still the man was insistent that my husband should defend him in court. Result, man was banned and wouldn't pay my husband his fees. However as I was working for my husband at the time, I sued the miscreant and the court ordered him to pay my OH :))

Ho hum, I'm off to the dentist shortly and should anything go amiss it'll be the fault of my daft old body, not the Dentist's competence. :))

    Take care

Hello Tilly, Chrissie and DD :))

I'm absolutely delighted with the result. I've now got two very smart bottom front teeth added to the denture that's got a few back teeth on it and as Stu says "You've certainly got your smile back".

I'se being a good girl. Mustn't rinse my mouth for 24 hours and I didn't even twig that the Dentist had taken out the poor worn out ones. What is it they say about no sense no feeling? :))

If I only could, I'd dance the night away :))

    You all take care

    Aw thank you Iris :))

I've just realised that I need to see an optician too :))

My touch typing is obviously not as good as it once was if I spell "compensation" as "conpensation"

Oh well, I'll get there in the end :))
