After having a brilliantly successful Thr in September, people keep asking me when I am going to have the other one done As far as I can tell the other hip is fine and has never given me any trouble Does anyone know that when you have had one hip replaced it automatically means you need the other one too?
As far as I can tell I'm doing fine thanks

    Hi Tones
No I dont think it means that you automatically need the other one doing.....you'll know if you need it done...just dont leave it too long if you think you do need it doing.
I was told I needed both done and shown the x rays ...one the same as the other.....but now they think that if they get my back sorted out I wont need the other one doing...or at least not for a while....So that means i'll have had 1 done. Enjoy your new hip while you can without thinking about another THR

    Love

OA can affect one joint, that joint plus the parallel joint, or a range of joints. It all depends - you OAers are all different, as are the rest of us. If it isn't causing you any trouble then there is no need, surely, for a replacement. Have you had it Xrayed? If it isn't causing you any pain then - as you have been doing - carry on rejoicing! Hi Tonysp, people only have both hips done if they need to. If your other hip is painfree and working fine, then no, rest assured you don't need it doing. You would know if you did!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Tonesp

Glad to hear that your new hip is doing well. I had mine done in May this year.. My other hip is absolutely fine (fortunately).. My surgeon showed me my x-rays before the operation and you could see that my right hip had no cartilage surrounding it (ie it was bone' on bone) whereas my left hip had plenty of cartilage around it..
