I haven't noticed your name for a couple of days - I hope that things are not too bad, I am beginning to fret. Your diabolic damsel.
PS Should we re-open the MASH unit? Do you need our tender and loving care? Or is that threat enough to effect an instant cure?

Hi damsel!
you are so thoughtful... I think I may have to change your name to Florence (of Nightingale fame) the way you always look out for other folks on the forum. x
I'm not on the forum as much just now as it's not been great with arther these past few days/ weeks and it doesn't look as though it will get any better in the short term.
As you know I'd missed my rheummy appointment last week due to the weather conditions and wrote to my consultant about the anti tnfs & to let him know how bad things have become with arther etc...
I decided to phone his secretary this morn... who said the doc isn't back until Monday.... but that she will make sure he reads my letter and is sure he will phone me later that day/ next.
She very kindly put me through to the Day Ward to find out about the steroid injections... but it wasn't good news for me as I've been told I definitely cannot have my knees 'steroided' again for another month.
Apparently they have a 3 month 'rule' for repeating the aspirating/ steroiding and another 'rule' which is that you're not allowed more than 3 steroid injections in a year....( which can't be written in stone as I've already had more than 3/12.)
Earliest they'll review me in the Day Ward is 6th January.
I will be asking rheummy when he phones what else he can do meantime as arther is running wild, especially in my knees. :x
thanks DD for your kindness.. x:)
and if all else fails at least I know there's the M.A.S.H Unit to fall back on! x x

Oh Iris I am sorry you didn't get your appointment for the injection today.
Jan 6th will seem an eternity to you.
I hope when you speak to the rhummy person they can suggest something to help before then.
I am still waiting for app to come through post in place of my cancelled app with neuro people. (oops gone off track sorry)
Any way take care and rest your knees.
Thinkig of you

Hi Iris
I was so sorry to read of the delay in getting your knees steroided again and I do hope that the rheumy does get back to you early next week so you can discuss what can be done in the interim.
Thinking of you.

Hi Iris
Really sorry that things are really not going well for you lately. I hope your rheummy does phone back Monday and can offer some support PDQ. The knees don't sound good at all lovey. Hope you are resting and being nice to yourself there. I leave some of those famous chew sticks which served you so well once before and lashings of healing hugs. (((( ))))
take care please
love
Chris

Hi Iris, I'm sorry you are having trouble keeping arther under control at the moment. Having to miss the appointment was unavoidable, but has left you playing the waiting game. I hope your rheumy rings back asap. Does the day ward ever have cancellations? Maybe someone will have an appointment close to Christmas that they cannot attend. Thinking of you and your poor knees.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Iris, so sorry things are not all going well just now. The bad weather must have been quite enough, but add arther into the mix and I'm surprised you haven't just hibernated!
Do hope things improve and that you manage to get an early appointment.
Love

Damn. Blast. Oh dorcas, I am so sorry, I know how rough these things can be. I wish I could do/say/type something that will make the world of difference but I can't, it is rough and it takes a deal of determination to plod on. I was surprised they did your knees on successive weeks, I have always been told that it's once every three months - but they do bend the rules to suit themselves and I find that so tiresome. Perhaps an alternative is oral steroids - insidious little b***rs they are, but they help. I am thinking of you, very, very much - I can guess how you are feeling, been there myself a number of times now, and hon, it ain't fun. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Iris
I am so sorry for not being on to see this yesterday, but I had a 13th birthday party to see to. x:oops:
I am also very very sorry to hear you feel so very shift too x:(
We have the same 'rule' of three months between jabs here too x:( :evil
Let us hope you get a call on Monday from the rheumy with some ideas - any ideas which may help you just now. 6th Jan sounds a long way off when you are suffering so x:(
Huge hugs to you from me
and thanks DD for enabling us all to offer you this unsolicited support )

Morning my lovely. I hope you passed a better night and that things are not too bad this morning - vain hope, I know, but it's the best I can do. I am thinking of you and your 'juicy' knees (God, horrible but apt!) and if he doesn't ring I will sort him out. Promise. Diabolic Damsel.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Iris
Still hoping you have had the call and maybe just not had time to let us know....or better still that he called you in and has given you a big fat hairy jab to help you out )
Lots of love

Thank you everyone for your kind support and messages. x:)
I've only popped in for a minute ....so apologise for not answering folks individually and also for not posting on anyone else's threads  promise to catch up when I can.xx
My rheummy has just phoned.... said that he doesn't know if he got my letter as he's got a rotten memory.
Anyway after me telling him a little of what's going on he's come up with this plan
-I've to phone the Day Ward in the morn and ask for a cancellation to get my knees 'steroided'.. he's not concerned about the 3 mth rule as 'need' takes precedence. If there are no cancellations I've to ask for an IM Steroid injection as the nurses can do that for me. (he'll try to remember to tell his secretary to confirm all of this to the ward tomorrow  )
- He's doubling the Amatriptyline to 50mg, increasing the Mtx injections to 20mg, starting me on Leflunomide and putting me back on Diclofenac. I've to stop the co-dydramol and take the max Tramadol and max paracetamol alongside.
He said to phone him if I don't get the steroids by Wednesday afternoon.
Sorry to be in and away....
Iris xxx
I do appreciate the support as I am quite a misery just now. hopefully the chew sticks and greens in combo with the meds will help. x0 -
There is absolutely no need to apologise, you daft girl: we all need time to hide away, lick our wounds and regain/re-learn some fighting spirit. You show me a sweet-deprived three year old and (if it's the right time) I will out-tantrum him and show him how it's properly done. Come to think of it, I could probably even act it if required! I hope you get the help you need, and soon. Thinking of you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

wow Iris, that's a plan and a half
really really hope that it will work for you, and that you can begin to feel a little bit more 'yourself' very soon.
please don't apologise about anything .... you feel how you feel, and that's what we're here for.
loads of hugs and a few slurps from Littlelegs
WOnky xxx
PS - himself sends you his best choccy too )0 -
Hi Iris
Just leaving some hugs while I can. (((( )))) How lovely of your rheummy to say need takes precedence. x:D Sorry you are feeling so down with it all there but it is entirely understandable so take your time love. I hope tomorrow is a little brighter.
take care, hang in there we are thinking of you.

Chris xx0 -
Hi Iris,
Hey don't you dare apologize for not posting... you ave given so much to the forum that you are way in credit already!
Really glad he is ignoring the 3 month rule... like my neck its a case of which is worse..... your knees need to be done and I am so glad they will be.
Your going through the mill my friend and I so hope it will all get easier or you and they have a cancellation as son as possible. if not the IM might help you big time.
Gad your back on the diclos.... I swear by them and the inflammation when I am off them makes me know how much they help. Hope its the slow release ones (kinder to the digestion) and you got something better than omoprozole.... Can I say that?!
Leaving more chew stick, honey sticks and some frosted dandelions... and the giant much better hope x x ((((( ))))) and I so hope you will get some help asap. Love Cris xxx0
