Tried a special diet in the early days for 4 months. Thought it was doing me good but dropped to below 7 stone x:!: When I did start eating a normal balanced diet again I felt so much better and regained a healthy weight.
I've tried many alternatives over the years and none have worked for me.
There's no harm in you trying though so long as you talk to your GP/Rheumy first as diets do work for some people.Love, Legs x

Hello firemanphil nice to meet you
My grandma once gave me an Arthritic cook book
Bless, she thought it would help.
All the recipes were fish (YUK) and chicken, no red meat or tomatoes or any other acidic food.
So I ditched that Idea. I haven't looked since.
Hope the diet works for you.

I think it all depends on whether they have medically diagnosed arthritis (many different forms of that) or whether they have self-diagnosed just vague aches and pains as 'arthritis' - this is, believe it or not, a popular past-time for some. I was on a strict diet for years as a child due to severe food intolerances caused by an over-active immune system. It certainly helped the skin but not the asthma which developed aged 7. I note that for the PA (my version of this arthritis rubbish) acidic foods such as pickles and chutneys do aggravate pain, but not for long and life is far too short not to have stuff I enjoy. The only answer, Phil, is to 'suck it and see'. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Just downed my 15mg of MTX..... :? Will wait and see...
I was sent a link for a triathlon forum to dr mc dougal diet....
I can sort of understand... I studied natoropathy as a module within my osteopathy degree (which I only completed 3/5 years)
I'm definatley stopping the full fat milk we have delivered in copious amounts...

Hello Phil
Thats quite a big starter dose of mtx. I was started on 7.5mg and worked up gradually to 20 mg.
I've tried various alternative meds and have considered the diet thing but in all seriousness the precribed drugs are what have worked best
Good luck0 -
Hi , Phil , I have had RA since I was 25 , now 55 . I avoid dairy foods , citrus , red meat and potatoes and find this helps the inflammation . Think the best plan is to cut down to the bare minimum then gradually reintroduce different foodstuffs to note any side effects ! Different people are affected by different items so it really is a bit of trial and error , but I would recommend giving it a go . By the way , alcohol is a definite NO for me , hope you don't find the same ! Jilly0

I dunno if this will help or not, but I used to take my tablet meth last thing at night - that way I could sleep thro any initial side effects (not that I ever appeared to have any). I did have to stop it because I developed meth rash - if you are still on it come the summer then make sure you use a very good sunscreen - meth and sunlight are not a good combo. I wish you well. Afternoon Phil!
So you've "done the deed"! Well done for taking that first step and hope you are feeling ok.
Re diet - whilst I don't believe that diet in itself will control inflammatory arthritis, I am a firm believer that eating a balanced, healthy diet can only be a good thing (although in my case I don't always practice what I preach!). I think that you won't do any harm, so long as you don't decide to follow an "extreme" diet.
