Last week I saw a consultant again, about the ridiculous levels of pain I am still in after my TKR in March.
As you know I am still reliant on a wheelchair and can't walk very far with crutches due to the pain.
Anyway, I saw this dic at Southend hospital and once again asked about the pain, he offered no reason, no examination and no effort to find out why!
I begged with him to help and he said I may just have to live with it and then offered to fuse the knee joint, I said that would cause so many problems, I am 6'4" and that would create a very long joint and I wouldn't even be able to get in a car!
I ended up in tears trying to explain what it's like to be in constant pain and how it is destroying my life, his response was to offer to refer me to a psychiatrist! I LEFT!
I complained & threatened to go to the press & hospital management have arranged for me to see a different guy this week!

That's disgraceful behaviour  , I'd like to see him cope with just a fraction of the pains most of us suffer on a daily basis..
I hope that you get a more understanding consultant next time. That one needs reporting..

Well, that was less than helpful, zechariah. Joint replacements are often promoted as the cure to end all cures but sometimes they don't go well and one would hope that the medicos would be more pro-active in trying to find out why yours has not gone so well. I hope the next man is more empathetic and helpful - let us know, please, how that appointment goes. DD

    Zechariah,
How disgraceful, I'm speechless but thank goodness you're going to see another Consultant, I really hope the next one can offer a sensible resolution for you.

    Hello Zachariah

Firstly I would like to say well done for getting another appointment. I am so angry for you, I only hope that your new appointment will finally give you some answers and most importantly some solutions. There is no excuse for the way you have been treated.
    Take care,

Having been through the medical system with patella OA I never fail to be amazed by the ignorance/arrogance of so called medical professionals, and I have private health insurance so that doesn’t make them anymore compliant trust me!. x:shock:

    Goodness!

So sorry to read this, he failed you and then suggests you see a psychiatrist? It beggars belief. Really hope you find some genuine support soon and some answers to find a way forward with less pain.
    take care

I am sorry to read how you were treated. I am not surprised you feel so upset and angry. I hope you can resolve this with the further meeting. Good luck

Hello, Some of these people don't seem to have the slightest idea of what its like to suffer pain for a long time and not be able to do anything about it.

I'm glad you complained and I hope that the new doc will be much more sympathetic. Love Sue

thanks for the replies, I was so upset and my wife was aswell, however it's hard for people to understand, I know I don't post here very often but I knew that this was the place as you all suffer aswell and have unfortunately been the victims of unfair treatment by those that are meant to help us!
Thank you guys, sometimes you start to doubt yourself, hard to explain but, you think that how can they say that, "is it me" and then you snap out of it and realise it's the inhuman overpaid consultants problem!

Well said Zech....dont you dare doubt yourself....just a bit more humanity on the part of the consultant would go a good way.
When I was first diagnoses the consultant I saw was wonderful, he was caring and treated me like a human being, I know they are busy, but it doesnt take much dose it.
