Bumetanide

Diagnosed beginning of the year with OA in the ankle (very painful, but only when I move!!),the RA in my hands is well controlled with methotrexate and occasional diclofenac.
The rheumatology nurse felt that the ankle swelling was not entirely due to my OA and was exacerbating the pain.My GP prescribed bumetanide (diuretic),it has reduced the swelling but has no measurable effect on the OA pain.
Any others with similar experience?

Hi Prefab
Welcome to the forums from me
I would think you need pain releif for your OA. the meth wont do that but the diclos could help? It';s an anti-inflam as you know, but maybe you need a painkiller alongside?
GP should be able to prescribe something if things like paracteamol dont help.

Hi Toni
Thanks for your message.I have taken paracetamol but not regularly, perhaps I should include it in my 'pain relief programme' (in addition to the single malt). Will give it a whirl.

welcome Ron.
I also have OA in the ankle diagnosed from an x-ray taken last November. And yes it hurts but worse time for me is at evening when I can barely stand on it and it hurts through the night too.
I never thought about the swelling being anything other than R.A .My ankles are fat now and I used to have lovely slim legs but I wonder if it is fluid as my mum had similar problems.Trouble is she ended up taking a pill for this and a pill for the side effects which started something else off....I don't want to end up like that.
