Hi,
Sorry I havent been on for a while.....I've had 2 physio appts since seeing the back specialist. The first one consisted of an assessment and 2 gentle exercises to do.....the 2nd one a week later..... she gave me 1 more exercise to do and wants to see me in a fortnight. I thought "this is going to take a long time" so asked if she could refer me to the OT which is in a room next door.....she said she hadnt the authority to do it....I wanted a bit of advice about long handled things to help with cleaning...low and high things. Anyway on the way home I thought I still have her numbr from years back....so I rang her and the next thing she said was I'll come out and see you on Thursday.....Anyway after I got over that shock I thought i must do my list of things LOL before she comes.....
Today {Mon} about 12 noon she rang and said she had just seen the weather forecast for Thurs and it looked as if the snow was coming back again so could she come at 1pm today..I said yes...but bang went the list LOL
She wants me to go on a 1 day course she is having in Jan about how to look after your joints. OK.
She wants to put another rail up the stairs {broom handle diameter} also a bath lift.
All I wanted was advice on long handled things to help with cleaning. Anyway....a perech stool again, a 2nd grabber [picker upper LOL] She isnt sure about long handled things to clean...says she will look in a catalogue and check I asked about the long handled sponge we got when we had THR {for doing your back} but everything has a few purposes.....she said that might work.
Any ideas about other long handled things will be welcome....I've got a long handled dust pan and brush.......but the shops are filled with Christmassy things at the minute
Love
Hileena

Wow what a resourceful woman you are!

and what a day! no wonder you forgot your list ..... but no doubt you will be seeing the OT again and can ask anything you have forgotten.

Long handled things are great aren't they? I find that I use the dressing stick that I bought for loads of things except getting dressed :lol::lol: THe one I have has a shoe-horn on one end that is great for tucking sheets in when making the bed, and a hook at the other end that picks all manner of things up for me

I also found a long-handled bath sponge in one of the catalogues which delivers door-to-door (the one which cleans easy  ) which is quite handy.

You've got me thinking now ..... so no doubt I'll be back with more once I've remembered what I do

    hugs

I've got a long handled duster, for reaching high shelves and getting behind the radiator. I can stand in the middle of the room and dust quite a few things! A ring pull hook to open cans easily and an electric jar opener and a can opener. Its amazing what you can adapt, too from ordinary things. I also got a plastic washing basket on that fits on a trolley, only trouble with that is that I have to keep it covered as it makes a good cat basket and I object to washing things twice!!!!  Good luck!

the same catalogue I mentioned earlier has long-handled sponges for cleaning feet/between toes and they also do a really handy long-handled thing (not cheap though  ) for putting lotion on which I'm using a lot since I still have my all over rash

more tomorrow when I've really had a think

Had to laugh at that bit, the hook on the end of them shoe horns is very handy eh? Lol... I use it for everything from grabbing my shoes from the shoe rack to picking up my phone charger cable, clothes that fall on the floor and many other things... I love my long-handled shoe horn, I even use it as a shoe-horn! :o:lol:
I have one of the sock putter on-erer things but it just doesn't seem to work for me.. The plastic things with the ribbons?
My grabber gets used a fair bit too.. Gravity is a nemesis of mine!!! :evil

Hi ...I've got a shoe horn which didnt find its way back after THR  It has a curve on the end of it...is that what you mean by a hook?
Dressing stick I've not come across.

OT said she would get me a long handled sponge....had one fort in the shower but this one I thought i could adapt for cleaning ???

In the rival catalogue to that one :lol: I bought a thing to put body lotion on your back..... havent used that for anything else yet but I'll get thinking......

Saw various dusters in the same catalogue.

The body lotion thing probably isnt the same as yours....only cost approx £3 when I bought it.
Thanks for all your help....you've got me thinking outside the box now LOL

{keep them coming if you can} I'll also go back through the thread about simple things.....adapting thngs or whatever ....Its only 7.30am not half awake yet LOL

    Hi Del
I've got a long handled bath brush as well....its long handled things for house work I mean. Thanks
DD.....got a copy letter today from the back specialist to the hip specialist and the physio is copied into it as well so maybe she will be a bit more confident next week when I see her...up to now all she has done is given me 3 gentle exercises......she'll maybe be more confident like I say now that she had the letter from the back specialist

Hmmmmm, remember it's your back that she is treating with caution, so that could be a good thing! Surely it is better to begin gentle then build to strong (oo-er missus!) than vice-versa - now that could cause further damage. I hope you are well in yourself. DD

Hi Hileena, well done you once again for making things happen! That self referral was quick and productive.

How are the back exercises working?

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
