Hi

It's taken over a year for my quack of a doctor to dignose my neck and shoulder paid as Arthritis. They don't appear to offer any real help or advice, so I'm getting private acupunture and massage treatment, combined with the Ultralieve pro home device.

I'm also taking Naproxen and Devils Claw, so my daily routine is quite extensive to reduce the pain.

I have been advised by a sufferer that Emu Oil has helped her significantly and wondered if anyone else had any experience of this?

I presume you have OA - personally I hold no great store by these remedies - my view is that they are for those who 'think' they have arthritis but actually don't. We are a vulnerable group to those who peddle 'miracle' cures. Recent research has shown that glucosamine etc does very little, if anything, to ease symptoms - no form of arthritis is curable, as yet, the best one can hope for is the alleviation of the condition. I wish you well. DD (who has PA).

From my undertsanding emu's oil is a blend of omega 3, 6 and 9 in perfect balance for general health and well being. You do not need to / sholdnt take cod liver oil wih it as it can alter the omega balance in the mixture. Someone please correct me if i am wrong. If any of us should take anything then i wold recommend this as it doesnt just help with lubricating joints (needs to be taken long term to notice any benefits though) but it also helps with your skin, bowels, nails and general vitality.
I must add though that my local health food store and some of the bigger supermarkets also stock this oil, it costs around about £15 but i use to get mine from my local health food shop and it woujld cost about £8 for a bottle with 50% more in it. I no longer take it as it was repeating on me.
You can also add this to your cooking to avoid the nasty fishy taste.

    Hi Devo

It’s lovely to know that you are motivated and are taking serious efforts to combat your neck and shoulder pain.

Have you heard about Ayurveda? It’s a complete herbal science, sister science to Yoga, which is a great alternative to manage Arthritic pains.

Though it is best to get a complete consultation from a qualified Ayurvedic Consultant (Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) , who will give you Dietary, Lifestyle and Yoga recommendations, Herbal remedies and Massage based Ayurvedic Therapies as a holistic combination to battle your condition.

Alternatively at home you can massage the pain and surrounding areas with plain warm sesame oil for 5 minutes.
Then you peel off a big onion and cut it into two halves. Put the flat half of both pieces to heat on a non-stick pan while you are massaging. Take one of the onion halves and wrap it in a muslin/ thin cloth, hold it from the tapering side so that you could pat the flat end of the onion on the pain areas. First when the onion is very hot pat it slowly and as you feel the onion becoming cooler, rotate the onion in a circular manner with full contact to the skin.

The onion will cool down in around a minute’s time, so you can take the other half of the onion and repeat the procedure. Then again apply the oil for 5 minutes and repeat the procedure with the onions.

If this is difficult for you, you can ask somebody/masseur to do it for you. Start with 15 minutes twice a day, and check out the difference!

Try to find out more information about Ayurvedic herbal remedies like Guggul, Yogaraj Guggul etc. used in Ayurveda since thousands of years in the management of Arthritis.

Take care and let me know of the feedback on Ayurvedic home remedy…

    Warm regards

    Hello Devo and welcome!

I have no experience of Emu oil or of the therapies you are having to try to ease your arthritis but I do hope that you find some relief. I have heard good thiings about acupuncture (not specifically related to arthritis, but in general).

I have RA so have to rely on a cocktail of meds to keep things under control but I do believe that a healthy diet and taking care of your health generally can only be a good thing. (That said, I don't always (usually!) manage to practice what I preach!!!!

Please do post back and let us know how it goes.

    Love Tilly x
