And I am. I have spent today turning out my 'office' and making it habitable for my MIL - she has to sleep in it over Christmas, it's the only available room. As she is 90 and the old eyes are dimming, I replaced the earth-saving gloom bulb with a pearl 60 watt - remember them? What a little beauty. It's giving a lovely, bright and warm-white light, instead of the murky orangey glow of the earth-savers. I can see to type with just its light. I have drawn the curtains so no-one spots the sin and dobs me in. DD

    That is a good point del, I think the 'knit your own yoghurt' brigade only blasts what suits their ideology, thus conveniently ignoring that which doesn't. When one of my ESGBs went, I rang my local council to ask what I should do with it - stick it in your black bin was the advice. I didn't, 'cos that rubbish goes to landfill. It's in a box, under the stairs, with two others. DD

    I think you have a good excuse there DD and it was thoughtful of you.
    MIL safety comes first.
    I have 3 massive spotlight bulbs in here(comp room) but unscrewed 2 so that only one works it was far too bright.

    You did the right thing there.

    She needs to be able to see bless her.

    You can always change it back afterwards if you feel the need.
