Hi
Some if you know my hip dislocates and is deformed
Pain clinic hasn't really helped and I was told I have to wait for a new hip as I'm 29 too young!
For the last 3 days I have been in absolute agony and don't know what to do. The oh says he will come with me to see GP and demand something is done, got appointment Tuesday or was thinking of phoning for emergency appointment Friday I'm not sure! The thing is I am at the end of my tether with this pain and now the RA is joining in! Wanted to ask for advice and get stuff off my chest! Gggrrrrr really had enough! Wanna curl up and do nothing at the moment! Want to be like I used to be!!
Sorry for the moan! Any advice on what to say to GP or what to do????
Gxx

Hi Gemma
I have sought of and still going through this, trying to get the right treatment is so hit and miss, the one thing I am learning, is to stand out, in other words get across how much pain you are in, your OH is right to go with you, they will take more notice and hopefully give you the help you need.
Dont forget you are one of many seeing your GP and consultants are seeing, so you must stand up for yourself, and dont forget to write a list and take it with you, not easy I know, but it dose help.
Good Luck
Love

Thank you!
Think I will ring Friday and go and see GP!

Hi Gemma
People your age and younger, on here, have had their joints replaced even though they were considered too young. You're told this because it is a last resort. The trouble is you're wasting your young life being in so much pain. Have you thought of asking for a second opinion it could be worth a try?Love, Legs x

Thanks! I think i will go back to the orthopeadics and see what they say! Feel like it's stopping me at the moment!

Hi Gemma,
Oh flower pain isn't good at all is it? Drives you up the wall and across the ceiling..... I hope at the very least they can help with that bit.
I don't know if this will be helpful or not but my kid brother had his first hip done at 21 and the other 22. He has only had one side re-done, though the other is pending and he is mid 40's now.
With him he had no hips left, they wouldn't do it till he was 21 cus he was still growing.
What to do about the gp though.....
Can you get a double appointment and just take your oh and talk to them about just how much pain your in and how much its impacting on your life? Sometimes you have to stress the quality of life things. Really wishing you good luck and with luck they will be willing to help you. Cris x0 -
It's Friday
gemma did you get your appt? I hope the OH came with you if you did and if not that you will be ok till the tuesday appt.
I strongly beleive that going to appt with someone else really helps.
Love x:(

29 is too young for a hip replacement ? How daft can you get ?
if you are in sooo much pain surely they should at least consider and x ray and then go from there. i don't know your whole situation as i only just joined- however i had pain in my hip when i was 20- had various sorts of physio etc, no luck then rheumatology decided to do an x ray- it was then that the consultant came in- i knew it must have been serious- she said i needed a hip replacement asap. Heart breaking at first because lets face it its major suregery, but honestly i was in so much pain, part of me just wanted it done and out the way
4 yeas on i have had both hips done and i would advise it to ANYONE in so much pain. it is one of the best things i have ever done.
I really hope you get something sorted as i know how painful it can be x x x0 -
Hi Gemma, if your hip is so deformed, keeps dislocating and is causing you so much pain - then know you are not too young for a replacement. I had my first replacement at age 30 and that was 13 years ago and things have come on along way since then.
You need an ortho referral and get your GP to back up how much pain you are in. Do you work> If so use this as part of your argument - you are finding it increasingly difficult to fulfill your work duties etc
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Gemma I've just had a TWR and am 49 I first started with pain getting a bit over the top aged about 30 but it was always put a side as I was too young but despite numerous pain relief and many other health problems , my GP refered me back to my rhumatologist who referred me to a surgeon who then reffered me to a specialised surgeon on the mainland (I live on the Isle of wight) all said it was now time to get something done I was saying things like just stop the pain or chop my wrist off now aged 49 with a new wrist which works ok still very stiff and can be achy if I over use it ( it has its limits and I need to respect that instead of pushing it) but have been made aware that the new joint might not last long it could last up to 5 or 10 years when it would need to be redone, my surgeon sees me regularly and will continue to do so to monitor its progress and keep an eye on it a small price to pay keep pushing and good luck0

Hi Gemma
Good luck with getting a referral to orthopaedics and as others have said stand your ground with regard to surgery. :!:
I've had ortho surgery which has always resulted in enhancing my quality of life and reducing pain.
Let us know how you get on please.

Well that seemed a waste of time
Broke down but he examined me, didn't even look at my notes or x-rays! He said it's just the tendons and muscles around my hip! He gave me some diclofenac gel and that was it!!! Am just upset and feel crap! Can't wait and see what the rheumy says on Thursday! Lol0 -
Og gemma
that is rubbish! I would be really cross if I were you x:(
l do hope thurssday goes better for you - you are not going alone are you?

Hi gemmapetkin, good luck for tomorrow, I hope the rheumatologist can help in some way. I don't know much about your condition or the problems you are facing but that chap you saw recently didn't seem very empathetic: he could be right, but there are ways of telling people things, yes? Better luck tomorrow, and do let us know how you get on. We are spread a bit thin, there are so many of you off for big appointments, but we will be with in spirit! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

On my own Thursday I'm afraid! Want to come off the tablets and try something else as I can't bear taking them all anymore !
Gx0 -
Hi
Well can't come off tablets but was talking to him about having kids in the next year or two so it's for the best!
I'm now just so fed up with my hip! Which is not RA related!
Just deformed! Lol
I don't know wether to go and ask to see another GP? As I really wasn't happy with the last one, he didn't even look at my x-rays!
Thanks

Hi Gemma, I don't have any specific info for you but just wanted to weigh in with some moral support while it comes along.
While I am very articulate and quite capable of standing up to people in most situations, when I see a doctor, I immediately turn into a gibbering jellyfish porbably because I was brought up to believe that doctors were God and you shoud Never Question Their Authority, so I do understand how it goes and how rotten you can feel afterwards. They're not God, of course, just very human and working hard under immense pressures with only a limited time to talk to each of us. Nevertheless, it is very important that you can trust your doctor and over the years I've had some who were competent, sympathetic and understanding and others who just wanted to write a prescription and get me out as sson as possible. Luckily, I believe my present one is in the first category but he's only just taken over.
What GP you get is a bit of a lottery. It used to be very hard to change but I believe I read somewhere that it had been made easier. I'm not sure how that has been affected by the fact that some doctors have full lists. Perhaps you could get more info on that from the Helpline here and also ask around to try and find someone in your area who's more sympathetic to this kind of problem. If your OH can't get to appointments with you, perhaps you could find someone else close to you to accompany you and ask questions on your behalf.
All the best of luck, and very warm wishes. Jassie.0
