As my friend who is getting married in 3 weeks is strapped for cash I said I would by my own dress and flowers (I am maid of honour).
I have the dress idea sorted, I am slightly worried about the flowers though and the cost ....
Any help from male or female lol is gratefully needed.

If you go to your local florist maybe they will give advice, also a rough idea of cost... I'm just guessing though cos I'm a bloke, you know, a geezer.. LolMe-Tony

Hi.
Go simple with the flowers. It's a case of less is more effective.
A small bunch of Calla lilies, stems about 10 inches long-tied half way down stem with raffia. About 9 lilies.
Make sure the ends of the stems are dry so it doesn't mark your dress.
Go to a good florist either to order the flowers or get them made up for you.
An idea is to go through online florists for ideas and maybe print off something you like to take to a florist.
Hope this helps.
Have a great day.

Hi Toni,
Those artifical wedding flowers are really really good now.
It's very hard to tell them from real ones.
Online flower arranging supply shops do artifical ready made wedding flowers.
They're quite cheap too.
Pamie, if you've got time have a look at some of the suppliers.
(I spend hours looking through them)
Take care.xx0 -
Seems bit late in the proceedings for bride to be to be thinking now short of pennies and you having to go to expense of dress and flowers! Could savings be made on say making own invites, making own favours etc?..asking caterers to requote on lesser expensive meals etc. Although on the flowers front when i have seen supermarket bouquets they look really nice, could you buy a bunch and take out say a couple of roses or a couple of flowers and then buy some greenery and tie with a ribbon using the colour theme of the wedding?0

I got the flowers for our wedding from hobbycraft -I made my bouquet, headress, flowergirls headresses, buttonholes x2, Mum -in-laws bouttenaire for less than £40. Ok that was over 9 years ago but even allowing for inflation you should be able to get something in 'silk' quite reasonably priced. My flowergirls didn't actually carry flowers as such, they had little silk clutchbags with flowers stuck to them. Maybe that's an idea? Have fun0

She could afford it, but she was thrown off her course at college, so her funding was stopped, she also has a 2 year old son and another on the way.
Please can you not make assumptions before you know the facts.
All catering and other areas were paid by her parents she was paying for dresses and flowers.I ♥ Runrig.

Fair enough!
How about approaching a college who have a floristy course and ask if students would like to do the wedding flowers? - sure they would be delighted to be asked.0 -
They were saying on radio 4 the other day that the average wedding cost £20K their having a laugh aern't they!!??, we got wed in a registery office and only had a few freinds along then went out for a meal afterwards didn't cost us bugger all really, I couldn't stand the thought of paying for the meals of all those relatives who I don't ever see and who don't really like me or really want to be anywhere near me but would take all the hassle for a few free drinks and some food, tight I maybe but milked I will not!.0

both my nephews got married last year and the money spent on the wedding was silly .covers for chairs, cooked three course meal in middle of summer, chocolate covered fruit, favors photos (was there all day and night and had meal) was a total waste of money but it was there choice and there day but one of them is still paying for it ???
we had church, hired local room and got caterer in i made bridesmaid dresses did flowers my self except mine (they were not the colour i wanted i should have done them) made pageboys out fit, could not get what wanted to fit them. friend did my dress as had seen pattern for one i loved,my brother had disco so we got pal to do it for us .we did not spend loads but were surounded by those we loved this made it a special dayval0 -

 ours cost almost but that was including a mega honeymoon. We didn't pay for too much overly sentimental or fussy crap but did pay for quality and essentially a large 14hr party for a lot of our friends and family... I only chose to do and have stuff that we and our friends would enjoy...oh and we had it on the most popular wedding sat of the year which boosted the price a bit...we also had to subsidise some of our less well off friends and reles accommodation but we wouldn't have done any of it if we hadn't saved for it, we were just lucky
I did my bridesmaids flowers .... white roses and freesias (from tesco the day before) tied in a small posy with a beautiful generous coloured ribbon kept in water till the last minute then thourougly dried with very absorbant kitchen towel....they were kinda cute and simple was best...and only cost about £10 all in
