It was dark when I got up this morning to get son ready for his return to school. My 7 year old piped up, "Theres an apocalypse today". Think she meant eclipse!

    Hi Tony,

David Bowie's 5 years from your other thread would have been a good one for this thread as well. What a sad song.

Cheers, I love that song, mind you, I can't really think of any of his songs I don't like, well, maybe the tin machine stuff, wasn't his best....
Did you see the eclipse at all?
I was asleep, woke up at half six then took some more painkillers and a tamazapam to ease this bloody flare up, woke up about half eleven, lol..

There'a a lot in the papers today about animal life dying in their thousands all over the world. Apparently this was forecast as Armageddon in the Bible. The Mayans predicted Armageddon to happen on December 21st 2012. It's to do with the alignment of the planets which on that date is supposed to be the end of the world If you were to believe their ancient prophecy.

Chances are armageddon wont come from some unseen hand, i.e. meteorite strike, global warming, global cooling, tsunami, nuclear warfare etc but it’s the slow creep of death that we don’t seem to see or bother about.
My view is the one thing that will get us will be generated by our own hands but it wont be to obvious and it wont be a great big BANG! Or some violent action that will do it, it will probably come in the form us killing off to many species and destabilising the ecosystem to such a point that it becomes dangerously imbalanced and the number of humans will decline accordingly over years not days, we will no doubt in time turn on each other for the basic things we all need like water and then maybe it could get seriously nasty and may even go nuclear but even then the planet will not suffer for long, in fact mother nature will bounce back and another species will in the end take centre stage.
Bottom line is if we want the human species to carry on surviving for many years to come then the best thing we could do is reduce the human population by over 50% but that wont happen as that’s logical and logic doesn’t stand a chance as long as over 80% of us believe in an illogical myth called God, and there’s the rub we can’t even agree who or what he is even though they him her it only exist in the minds of the manipulative the weak and the gullible, if god was some caring then why are our hospitals full of sick kids some dying of cancer?, if that’s being a caring deity is all about then I want nothing to do with him her or it.
I don’t see a God as many do, as he her it is not there never was never will be, our history and existence belongs and comes from the stars and wider space, we are literally star dust, all our atoms from hydrogen up come from the composter’s in the void ie supernova , we came from space and our atoms will in time go back to space, this cycle will carry on and on until all the hydrogen is fused into heavier atoms and then slowly all the stars will go out one by one, then who knows maybe another big bang and it all starts again?, but be assured that whatever you do on this planet you will always have cause and effect on the creatures around you, be they simple bacteria to the largest creatures that still manage to survive mans wrath, we have forgotten we are all interlinked and all need each other but numbers of those creatures that do the most damage need to be controlled ie humans or mother nature will step in and do the job for us all.
Right that’s me spleen vented for now!.

What a marvelous post Mellman, and I must say I agree with it all.
What we were taught in school turns out to be so untrue. There is no Heaven, there is no God, well not as we think of anyway.
Maybe there may be some super power in another Galaxy, we may never know.
