I'm looking for any information anyone has on organised excercise classes in the North East, preferably Co. Durham.
I had a THR on my left side back in October which is coming on fine but I still have major issues with the right side which I'm hoping to get sorted soon. As mobility is limited I have struggled to get out and about due to bad weather up here. Consequently being housebound has led to extra pounds going on and now I need to shift so they will operate again soon. Any help will be appreciated..........Davey.

    Tricia,

I'm not surprised you have found the same problems as I have in Durham area. I went for my 3 month check last Friday with the consultant. Had x-rays done on both hips while I was there but the consultant did not bother to look at them. When I challenged on the other hip that urgently requires doing I was told I had not been put back on the list for surgery so I have to wait till April. In the meantime I putting strain on the new hip. Heres hoping I don't need that one repairing again before time!..........Davey

    Hi Davey,

There is an NRAS group that meets in Freeman hospital Newcastle-upon-tyne. They might have some further information about exercise classes held in the area. Not sure if you have R.A though.
I am aware Newcastle is a couple of stops away but is still reasonably close. But you can just phone for advice in the first instance.
I have had a look and there is No number for the group listed but you could ring NRAS general phone number and ask on 0845 4583969. You could then contact the group to see if they know of any local exercise classes appropriate for you.
I did hydrotherapy last year and that was great. I asked my rheummy nurse for a referal.

Hi there,I am from the south of country, had double hip replacements with girdle stone in beween the two.I now attend what they call a circuit training excersise, all advised and encouraged by the hospital. It is hard, but brilliant too. It's a 6wk course twice a week, and they help you to build up your muscles, which have got weak through lack of use.I only wish there could be follow up centres where we could continue these valuble physio excersises, which we have to do forever to keep these joints moving.(sorry about my spelling) Mirabella
