Hi al,

As you may know I am still in Chronic pain after my TKR in March, I have just had a bone scan and the doc is talking about removing the synovium!
I am confused as I thought that would be gone during TKR anyway?

I have had two open synovectomies, and one closed, to remove both liquid and solidified synovial fluid. I know that the synovium is the lining of the joint, but not being an orthopaedic surgeon I cannot help. Sorry! DD

    Hi Zec

I do indeed remember well that you have been in pain since your TKR and I am so sorry. When you say "Doctor" do you mean the surgeon?

I would suggest that you get in touch with whoever is talking about removing the synovium or their secretary because it is your right to know more about what is going to be happening regarding your knee. You should not be left confused - it should be explained to you properly.

I do hope you are able to gleen more information very soon.

    Hi Zechariah,

I must admit that the phrase Total Knee Replacement suggests that everything is replaced but probably it just means the bone matter. The synovium is probably soft tissue which can't be replaced only drained or removed. Though in saying that I have no medical background.

Why don't you wait till Monday and give your doctor a ring for advice.
