Hi i am awaiting an appointment for a bone scan and was wondering if anyone has had one??..
If so are they succesful in confirming diagnosis??
I have read up on how the procedure is done and am fine with it just hoping it can show more as my xrays came back fine..
Any feedback would be very much appreciated..
Thanks

Tracy

    HI
I had a 3 phase isotope bone scan on Friday. Very quick, 3 minutes per image, but as I had dye injected after 1st image, I had to wait for 3 hours between 2nd and 3rd image. This is to allow the dye to have long enough time to achieve a clearwer image.
I am waiting for an appointment to get results. For me , the results will tell me if my bone has grown around my THR prosthesis. It shows new bone growth as part of the scan. What are you having yours for?

    Nearly Bionic..
    Morning..
I am having a bone scan as my bloods and other x-rays have come back normal(some on borderline)... but doc says my smptoms ar that of inflamatory arthritis...
I was just wondering how accurate the bone scan was as i am really relying on it to show things up so i can start right meds..

I had a bone scan that confirmed my diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis (seronegative RA). I was told that if there is anything, the bone scan will show it up because it's very sensitive. I don't know how true that is though or if I understood fully.

    Good luck!

    Hiya,

Nope I had a positive CRP and high ESR (still do actually, over a year later....:( ). My rheumy wanted to assess the extent of the problem and explained that the bone scan will show early arthritic changes i.e inflammation.

    All the best.

    Tracy,

Don't know if you did already, but I'd love an update on ur bone scan and diagnosis if any.

After battling with my GP for 1 yr he sent me to a rhuemy who diagnosed me with inflamatory arthritis before i had any blood tests / xrays, as i have read now in other forum posts, he based it on my symptoms I described over that year.. i was quite relieve tbh that he said it was.. ( my GP had wanted to send me to shrink cuz the pain was in my head...) Started my on hydroxy-chloroquine and after a few months it helped me so much, the miracle drug :)

Anyway, xrays, and many blood tests later still no 'official' signs of inflamation, RA etc... my rhuemy says im one of the interesting cases, but now i see lots of people in my shoes so i dont feel as special any more!! ;)

Anyway, back to my point - i've never been offered a bone scan, wonder if it would help assess my current inflamation and is it something I should look into, getting more clarity on my condition by these others tests, or just be happy that the drugs have been controlling my symptons, so the diagnosis seemed right and not worry about an official label?

(I'm kinda reading through some of your forum posts now just to catch up cuz u are right we sound like we have similar stories)

    Hi Carly..

I am still waiting for my bone scan results.. any day now soon i'm hoping the post lady will drop it through my door.. lol..
My xrays came back clear, my bloods were ok there were a few on the borderline but he has run those again,, My ultrasound on my hands showed no clear cut swelling... my symptoms are all of an inflammatory condition he says.. He recommended the bone scan as a last resort really as i was very distressed in his office saying i'm getting worse not better and somethings going on lol.. so he said the bone scan would show up early signs which would not be picked up in other tests.. this should then help with a diagnosis and correct treatment...
Might be worth mentioning to the doctor you have joined this forum and say you have read about ppl having a bone scan when other results are not showing anything and see what he says...
Your right we do sound very similar..
Have to keep each other posted..
    Take care

    Hi Tracy

Not sure I will be here to wish you good luck Tracy so am doing it now (will be on my hols tuesday next).

My story is very similar to Carly's with the rheumy diagnosing form hisory symptoms and GP's observations NOt ppositive bloods. I too am on hydroxy and now colcicine too.

Never had any bone scans or x-rays or MRIs for this (had in the past prior to back surgery)

    LOve
