Dancing on Ice

Hi
Dancing on Ice is back on the television tonight, and this is when I begin to feel a bit ancient.
Jayne Torvill was in my class at a junior school in Nottingham when she was 9. She was a very sweet little girl who always tried her best at everything, and she was very modest about her achievements in skating. She became British Junior champion when she was still at junior school, and I can remember her showing us all the trophy in morning assembly. Until then, none of us realised how good she was becoming because she had kept so quiet about it. I feel proud that I played a tiny part in her education.

Thanks Mell,
I should mention that I was right at the beginning of my career then ( I'm not THAT ancient :!:  )
Jayne grew up on a council estate in Nottingham, and I think her parents were amazed at her talent. She excelled at sport and dancing when she was at school, but she was always very modest and never boastful. She still has the same personality now despite her money and fame.0 -
Awww Joan...how lovely is that ..to have been there at the beginning of her career...no wounder you are proud...bet you were a lovely teacher...

Hi Elizabeth
You can imagine how excited I was when she won gold at the Olympics. She's still very good all these years later, and so is Christopher Dean.0 -
I was thinking you must have been so proud watching them win, not just winning but thrashing the opposition and scoring top marks for Bolero. My fave was the Barnum routine.

The headmaster of the school at the time was very proud because he was responsible for introducing Jayne to skating when he organised a school trip to the ice rink. She enjoyed it so much that she asked her parents to allow her to have lessons.0

I can understand the attraction to ice dancing and so pleased she got the chance to have a go. Well done headteacher.I have just watched Mack and Mabel and Barnum and is it still fantastic and emotional to watch.
