Hiya all,
well seen the specialist on Friday re the numbness of my knee after tkr in July. They are saying that it is due to nerve damage, hopfully a nerve trying to mend itself, or the nerve dieing if this the case the numbness with remain. Also no definate decision on the rash on the knee given dermovate oint to try for 10 days. Has anybody else suffered from nerve damage after this op.

Yes Alfie, it's very common. I was told the nerves can take up to 8 years to grow back and you may always have some numbness there. I still have in both my knees and it's over ten years now.
Hope your ointment helps your rash.

Hi... I had the carteledge removed 26 years ago or thereabouts, it left a big scar down the inside of my knee, they were trying to do some fancy way of stitching it up so there would be minimal scarring, it went a bit t1t5 up... It trapped all the nerves in that part of my knee and I had to have it re-opened and stitched conventionally, thing is up until about ten years ago I couldn't even stand my jeans pressing against it... It has slowly got better but it is still not right.. I hope that this has not bothered you in any way, it is more to make you aware that these things can take time, yours could be better a lot quicker than mine though with any luck..

    Best wishes....... Fingers crossed..

I had two open synovectomies on my left knee, about 15 months apart (in 02 and03) and I still have 'dead' areas on it. I cannot bear anyone to touch it (they have to press REALLY hard) and even now skirts/trousers brushing against it can feel weird. For a while after I used to wear a length of Tubigrip over it, but that got on my nerves as it kept rolling up. After both ops I was told that when I felt the nerves tingling I had to drum my fingers on that area, just lightly, and this would help them re-grow. I did so, and I presume it has, but my knee does feel odd. If you get that tingling, try the drumming - you never know, it might encourage new growth! DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hi I had a knee replaced a couple of years ago , mine is still numb and i have still got pain in the flesh but i have good movement so i am pleased with the end result. The trouble is when you have a knee or hip replaced they give you the idea you will be all fixed in a couple of months , i have found it takes at least 12 months for every thing to do back to normal well ''better'' it is never as good as your own knee, as they say it is only to fix the pain . Hope you are feeling better now you have spoken to them. I am so happy to get rid of that horrible pain . ...jilly
