Went shopping in my local beautiful local market town, Middleton, near Rochdale ( it's actualy a bit of a dump ).
Anyway, I put my time thingymibob up, and my Blue Badge pass, on the dashboard. When I got back, I had a parking ticket, and looked up to see the warden driving off into the distance.
The only thing I could see I might have done wrong, was that the Badge was at a bit of an angle. I remember it hurt my shoulder a bit as I reached over the dashboard.
I have written to the council immediately, and do any of you think it's worth the appeal, becaise I'm baffled over this little episode. Alanthemanc

Hi Alan
What does the reason on the ticket say?
Cath0 -
caterina
Just says " Parked in a pay and display carpark without clearly displaying a pay and display ticket or voucher "....... But I did.
All I might have done is display it a bit lop sided, as it must have slipped across the dash. I feel like iv'e been robbed. Alanthemanc0 -
Cath
£50 for that,..... you could walk into your local store with a shotgun and not get fined that much, all I did was display it a bit wonky. Alanthemanc0 -
Alan,
Appeal! Are you sure you had the badge the right way?

I'll admit , it was at an angle instead of straight, but not exactly a hanging offence. I've wrote to them this afternoon to appeal. and if I don't get any joy off them, I'm going looking for this guy , believe me, I will strangle him with my bare hands. Alanthemanc.0 -
I'm furious, I'm off to eat my tea to try and calm down, I've not been as mad as this for years :x Alanthemanc0

That is bloody ridiculous Rkid, had that once myself parked in a pay and display in Leeds where we are allowed to park all day, had badge out, photo face down so the exp. date is on view, even set the clock, which I ain't sure that you have to do in the pay and display but did anyway... Got a bloody ticket, the idiot must have been looking for a pay and display sticker and cos he dint see one he ticketed me, I contested it straight away, I won, but the cheeky sods made out like they were doing me a favour, as in.. We will believe you this time!!
Get it appealed matey, ring em up and speak to someone in charge if you can...
Bloody idiots in uniforms, bloody bum faced gestapo crew :xMe-Tony

Some councils charge for BB parking - does that one? I was caught out in Norfolk that way: Suffolk does not charge and I blithely assumed it was the same everywhere else, I didn't bother reading the charges board in Norfolk. My mistake, I paid up. I check now, in every fee-paying car park I use. I even pay in the hospital if all the disabled bays are taken, as the badge is only legal if in a marked bay, not a plain one. I stick to single and double yellows (following the rules that govern them - none of them at the hospital tho, all doubles with the yellow stripes on the kerb!). DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Alan...my theory is they are on a mission to give tickets to disabled drivers, we saw a warden giving one out the other day, and guess what I am sure he was laughing when he walked away.
Maybe they are jealous of us not paying.
PS I know Middleton very well....

This was a non charging council for Blue Badges, for the life of me, I just cant understand why he did this. The ticket says 10.38.am., just after I left the car, and I'm sure he was one of those private guys, because I saw a guy with an orange luminous jacket on , drive away. Alanthemanc0 -
if he was one of the private firms then appeal and dont give in, ive had similar problems in the past, stood my ground and they backed down, i questioned there legal right to take me to court as they were a private firm, also i wanted a full explanation on how there idiot could have possably missed the blue badge thingy as its huge unless he just sat in his car and wrote a ticket to make his numbers up. seeing as its a case of your word against mine i think i will see you in court. fine was cancelled and had a letter of appology 2 days later. fight it.0

Yeh, I know how you feel, there's no way I'm gonna take this without a fight. Alanthemanc0 -
Good for you rkid... These idiots annoy the hell out of me, they try it on depending on the fact that a lot of vulnerable folk will just pay up......

From what I've read you put your paid ticket up and your blue badge to show you can park there and that you aint a dodger. Even if they are angled but are on show you shouldn't receive a ticket.
Definately appeal and tell them that you will seek advice from citizens advice and another authority of some kind, that should scare the wind out of them and realise that they are in the wrong.I ♥ Runrig.

If you get a ticket and you think your badge is properly displayed then the first thing you should always do is photograph it at the time. It may be a suggestion to replace the badge as it was displayed and with your appeal attach the photo to illustrate how the badge was displayed at the time of the possible offence.
With the state of many car parks it may be worthwhile returning to check the regulation board. If there are any potholes, then perhaps you may inadvertently fall over one and lose your footing. That is always worth a few hundred pounds in compensation, more than enough to pay the fine if it isn't cancelled. Of course you shouldn't do such a thing deliberately, but these accidents do sometimes just happen.Joseph0 -
Hi just caught this thread. Hubby parked in a car park in mablethorpe and even though the traffic warden had seen us turn up we got a ticket because....we had forgot to change the time!!!!! It then made us read the signs in the car parks and we realised that you could only pay for free in the allocated spots. This meant if you parked anywhere but the couple of spaces they had you could not display your card and not pay. Now we always check the small print where ever we park. This also explains why people were parking just anywhere on the main highstreet and putting there cards in the window. I would appeal if i was you. We decided not to appeal because it was our fault but it did have one good thing come out of it...we now read all signs in all car parks. Good luck.0

Alan, has your BB expired? I was caught by that once, it was one day past the expiry date, that was a daft way to 'spend' £35! I have just sent off my renewal as mine expires on 05/03/11. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

No.... Iv'e only had the badge since October, it was just that I had it placed at a right angle. I've just thought on.....I had a Man City gonk in the back window, he could have been a vindictive U...d fan. I thought I did nothing wrong, I'm still fuming. ALnthemanc0 -
stick to ya guns Rkid.... Bloody bum face ****, should pay attention... Doesn't matter what angle your badge is at matey, as long as it's visible and they can see the expiry date..
If he was from darn sarff then he will have been a scum fan eh? Int that where they're all from, there and asia... :roll:Me-Tony
