Last Wednesday night, all day Thursday, Thursday night and Friday, I couldn't stay awake....and slept pretty well all the time........
Since Friday afternoon, I haven't slept........
Body is pretty well shattered....
But my head doesn't want to play ball...........
Anyone got any good ideas to get me to sleep??????
I'm not aware that I'm worrying........well no more than normal for me........

HI Rob
poor you - your body has taken some punishment over the last few weeks, and there's no wonder it's rhythm is all Kaput!
That is a long time to go without sleep though  so I do hope you find a way soon. I often find that it's worst for me when I've gone 'past' sleepy and got to the 'I'm so tired I could fall asleep standing on a pin' mode, though usually I can't, and my body won't do what it feels it should .... ie Sleep!!
The things that sometimes work for me:
Warm bath, followed by a hot milky drink,(not chocolate or coffee tea)
Listening to a recorded book with headphones, & with the light turned off, so I can fall asleep listening.
Settle myself into a comfy and warm position and then practice slow, deep breathing in a soothing rhythm, trying to concentrate just on the breathing (takes some practice to notice and then let go the other thoughts that drift in and out)
Sometimes I use the Arthritis Care CD of pain management techniques - some of the breathing and guided imagery exercises on there can be very relaxing, and give my brain something to think about rather than whirl away.
I know there are other things I've treid, but I can't think of them right now - sorry. WIll add them if they come to me.
good luck Rob!
Wonky
Ps - I could always send over the Forum lump hammer to do the honours0 -
My mum has a hammer under her bed to help me sleep....
Nah only kidding, warm milk or hot chocolate, no TV or computer, a good book and a good temp in your room should help.I ♥ Runrig.

So sorry to hear that you are having sleep problems, Rob.
I usually try to distract my mind from worrying about it if I can't sleep. I listen to some of my favourite music, read a book, or watch a DVD.
I sometimes try counting my blessings by writing a list of them all. It's surprising how long the list can be when you start to write them down, and it puts you in a positive frame of mind which can help you to relax.
Tell yourself a story - Do it fairytale style, just as your parents did when you were little... (ie, 'Once upon a time there was a little girl/boy/etc', or 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away') and let the storyline do whatever it wants too. Remember, the idea is that you fall asleep at some point and it becomes nothing more than a dream. You can also just think about the happiest time in your life and replay it in your mind, it has the same effect.
Keep a pen and some paper next to your bed, write down anything that pops up in your head, and promise yourself you'll deal with it in the morning and then try and get some sleep. This helps your brain to let go of its thoughts.
Meditation, or guided imagery, is another way of relaxing,

Some foods eg, bananas, and a warm drink can help too.

You're probably nodding off by now if you've read all this :!:

Sorry that you are having problems with your sleep...
Recount your day in bed from start to finish in detail.....if you make one mistake you have to go back to the start of the day again. Theory is you never get to the end of the day because you never get things in the right order.
Reading until your eyes feel like they are going to fall out of their sockets is another.
I was told to go to bed as late as possible and once in bed DO NOT GET UP otherwise your body will get into that habit.
The other thought is....is there a full moon coming!!!!!!!0 -
Hi Rob, hope you are ok Rkid..
If it's sleep you're after I could get my old man drunk and send him over telling him that you are intersted in hearing ALL about his days working for the Pru in the 70's!! Works for all of our family... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Its a new moon today Lupin.........
So that cant be it......
Eventually I went into a wood called Hanging Coombe........
On 'The Shoot'........nothing macabre in its name.......
Coombe, as in 'Valley'....
Hanging as in 'Densely Wooded Slope'....
Even there I couldn't get my head sorted out.....
Well.......last of the pheasants to pluck.........
Or maybe the peasants need to be wary.....
Hoo hum........another days begins...Rob0 -

My dad had a few pru stories too, 60's 70's 80's.The used to make us crack up.
The mysteries of sleep huh! I just think your body didn't need anymore sleep because you had a lot of sleep in the days previously. I know it is frustrating for you Rob. i would get a good book so at least you aren't twiddling your thumbs.Lettuce is also good for helping you sleep and it is the year of the Rabbit, although I prefer a hot milky drink myself.
