Pre Op Today

Just got back from my pre op, the fusion is happening week on Tuesday.
Had a good chat with the occupational therapist and she gave me some good pointers about coping post op such as keeping a footstool at the top of the stairs to aid getting up after bumming my way up them (no way I'm going up stairs on crutches when no weight bearing is allowed), also a good idea to keep a set of crutches upstairs as well, that way you dont need to struggle up the stairs with them.
Also discussed with the surgeon whether to have open or arthroscopic surgery. The athroscopic fusion has a quicker fusion time by a week or two but they can get a better union/alignment with open surgery so I have decided to go with that.

Hope everyone is keeping as well as they can be.

Will keep you updated on my progress.

Rob

    Hi Rob :smile: I think you have made the right decision regarding open surgery. It makes sense that they can do everything better that way. Is your op at the end of the month/beginning of March? I wish you well with that, do let us know how you go on, many of us are interested.

    Hi, Sorry I'm a bit late with this......you made me laugh. I remember a few years ago a car went over my ankle and smashed it.....tibia and fibia....after operating they put plate screws and pins in it and sent me home with one under arm crutch and a zimmer frame with orders not to weight bear for at least 3 weeks???? How can I use a zimmer and not weight bear? zimmer, hop, zimmer hop {OA in both hips LOL} They refused to let me go home until I could prove to them that I could do the stairs with this one crutch, and the bannister and hopping.....I thought I WILL DO IT I WILL DO IT!!!!! and then as soon as i proved i could they let me out.....it was straight on to my bum. You are so lucky having an OT that is helpful...as far as they were concerned I was doing my stairs by hopping....You would think that they would think it safer to do it that way rather than hopping. {especially at my age LOL}
    Good luck
    Love

    doing good so far, 1 week from now and I should hopefully be in recovery.
    Bought one of these cast protectors (the one with the rubber seal) for showering after the op, seems better than a bin bag and gaffer tape :wink:

    Thanks for all the support everyone has given me so far.
