My PA started with my left knee, then a few years later the right one joined in. Both have been like balloons with fluid etc, so regular draining and steroiding was the main treatment for a while: the draining made a difference, the steroids never. What meds are you on now? I know you changed the antiinflammatory recently, and that was suiting you better re side effects, so I hope that the inflammation starts to reduce and soon. I have not yet had any problems with my hips but I think I read somewhere that people with PA are rarely troubled with those joints - gawd I hope that is true, I cannot imagine anything worse.

The doc is right, keep taking the tablets and please ensure that your pain relief is adequate. As for coping, well, sheer bloody-mindedness seems to be my main strategy - how long has this been going on for you now? My problems began in '97 so I guess I am used to it - I think we all just have to get on with it as best we can. DD

It certainly can all be from the knee, Valval. As the song goes - your knee bone's connected to your thigh bone etc etc. When we have a lot of pain in one joint we tend to overcompensate on how we walk/stand/sit etc which puts a strain on other joints.

Before my lst knee replacement I saw the 'foot orthopaedic man' because most of my pain was in the ankle. When he showed me the x-rays my ankle bones looked fine but the knee joint had slid completely off course.

Hope you can get it sorted soon.

Funny old world Valval. I am told my hip is dreadful but I am not in massive amounts of pain as I should be. I was told all my knee pain was because of the hip and ankle damage on my left side. And I don't know why right knee hurts though as had hip replacement on that side and no sign of ankle damage. Lol.
I expect you are very confused by these x-ray results but it does show very active inflammation in various joints. And they do cause problems with various other parts of the body which is taking the strain.

    Glad you have your results.

    Hi Val
I am so pleased that the xrays on your hips are clear, but you are obviously still in pain, like Elizabeth says it really is confusing, my hips are now bone on bone, but some days my pain isnt bad...well if I take my meds.
I do hope you get something sorted very soon, pain is pain wherever it is coming from.
Apparently my knee pain is coming from my hips  your hips and knees share the same large nerve.
Good Luck I hope I have not confused you more.
