Hi All , well the steering seems ok ,the instructor said it has improved , so this morning I rang my brother to come and sit with me while I get some disel , so he called down we went out of my driveway turned a wee corner and thats when I remembered that I forgot my credit card so bac we went along the cul-de - sac , turned a corner to reverse back onto my driveway so a slowly reveresed and bang into the point of a steel post , now why did the parking sensors not let me know it was there , so got out looked the back bumper is dented and the crome bar above it is like dented and cracked. I got the motobility book out and it says any damage by you can cost from £150.00 -£250.00 when I leave the car in.
So I never got the disel
feel awful now

Oh dear , Mike , try not to get too upset by this , think of your first bump as a rite of passage ! Be grateful that you and everyone else walked away without any injury , pamper the poor motor for a few days ; it might not be as pricey to fix as you fear . Jillyb0

mike, you have got your first bump out of the way and it will be fine from now on. weve all done it. at least your first bump was a wee post, i reversed in to an industrial size wheely bin, bright green with a red lid. how the hell i didnt see it lord only knows, i still swear it jumped out at me hahahaha that was over 12yrs ago and ive never had another bump yet hahaha dont let it get you down or dent your confidence.

oh dear mike ,
Sorry to hear of your bump.
Hopefully the damage won't cost as much as you expect to get it fixed.
Got my fingers crossed for you

These things happen, it's all part and parcel of the joyous motoring experience. If the damage isn't too bad it hopefully won't cost too much to put it right. I don't know about the Motability side of things, ring them and have a chat, see what they say. These things are upsetting, but it is only a small prang and nobody was hurt. That's the important bit. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I think you just lose the good condition bonus of £250 if you have to make a claim through the motability insurance. The bonus is given when you hand your car back after 3 years and is a reward for not making any claims as the insurance is a group scheme.
It might be that the damage isn't enough to make it worth making a claim but you could phone motability to ask.

Hi Mike
It's a horrible feeling when you have a bump like that, but it happens to most people at some time. It does make you extra careful when you reverse after that though. I hope that you get it sorted out, and don't let it put you off driving.0 -
Hi Mike
You are not the first one to do this and not the last, I think all theses things are put there to test us :???: one warning, dont know about were you live but we have a well known DIY store that put bollards everywhere....so be aware.

Hi Mike, sorry to hear that Rkid.. It happens though..
I wrote my first car off three days after passing my test
I was only doing 15mph and it was a bag of spanners so just fell apart in the road though
I reckon the sensors didn't sense it because it was too thin? Just a guess though. I would ask the garage where it is from, if the sensors should have picked it up, if so, and the sensor is faulty then the garage should be responsible in my opinion...
Something to check into anyway..
Elizabeth, they have changed the system recently hun, you can now still qualify for the good condition bonus even if you have made a claim.. I think it changed in Decemeber...

I don't know if you read my thread 3 weeks ago..... I nearly had a bump, when at a side road junction in terrible weather, I saw one car, but didn't see another 5 yards behind him. I was just lucky, you weren't, dont' lose any sleep over it. Alanthemanc0 -

Thanks Tony. I had no idea. My car is due June 1st but have been telling OH to drive carefully etc as the bonus paid the deposit on the next car.
