Diet Time Pledge!

OK I figured, since i'm quite enjoying right now spamming these forums.. I'd make an official statement, to many strangers in the hope that I actually commit myself this time....

Being a healthy weight is good for anyone, it can only help me with my condition... so why haven't I stuck at it for long enough in the past?! My OH made a good point tonight that it's one thing I could be helping myself with that I just can't seem to stick at.

So here goes... my pledge...

Eat much much much less chocolate! (I don't think I could stop having any chocolate, that's unrealistic!)
Stop having so many cheese sandwiches! (+branston pickle *yum*)
Eat more healthy food!
Have smaller portions!

This plus me trying to build up my stamina for swimming... has got to help!

I'm around 93 kilos (14 1/2 stone) so there's plenty of excess weight to loose. There was a time i was a size 12, I ate what i wanted back then though but i played/trained in basketball 5 or 6 times a week!

Update next month! Ragh!!

    Hi Carly.
Good Luck - It's hard though isn't it?
I have been on sick leave for the past 8 weeks and with the usual christmas addage and not been very mobile I need to loose weight too.
I too love the cheese and pickle sandwiches - not really a choccie fan - I have a savoury taste bud that just keeps demanding!!!!!!
I will try though cos otherwise my summer wardrobe wont fit and I can't afford to replace it!!!

    Well done Carly.......

    I'm my ideal weight....

    About the same as you......

My problem is I'm 8 inches to short...

If I was 6ft 4in, I'd be my ideal weight.....

    See........not a weight issue.........just a height issue......

    Good luck..........

Ha, I've just been looking at diet/food related advice.
I was doing quite well on a diet my sister recommended (only eating 500calories every other day), but I don't have the willpower to do it regularly enough.

I'm looking at cutting out dairy and wheat for a while to see if that works.
But I like cheese and pasta too much!

I also have a hight problem. I've been waiting to grow those few extra inches for years now.

My hips have been pretty sore the past couple of days so perhaps a bit of pain will spur me on to actually thinking what I'm eating!

Wishing you lots of luck with this , Carly , I started to watch my weight the day after my last birthday ( 55 last october ) . I have lost nearly 2 stone and am thrilled with that , but for me , it's a very slow process . Being a wheelchair user , I can't do any exercise and only lose 1 or 2 pounds each week but not giving up and nor should you . Slow and steady as they say ! Keep us posted how you get on . Jillyb

Right, Jilly will have to give that one some thought --- On the positive side my shopping bill would be reduced!

That sounds like what I should be aiming for.
Sadly my willpower is sadly lacking.
However it is good to know it works.
I will be more determined (tomorrow, my OH has just said he'll warm me up a crossiant and would I like wine with tea! )

Every time I try to restrict my diet, the rest of my family seem to conspire to wreck my plans.
I think it may be time for a food diary and chart. That and teach my kids to cook so that they can have something different if they can't hack my diet.

    Hi All

    What a great idea

Jilly 1-2lbs a week is ideal as far as I know about perfect.

Rashine 50 calories every other day? Did I get that right??

I like the idea of diaries though that really tellS you what you are doing wrong.

    keep it up guys

    Love

    Toni xx

Had no *spam* for growth hormone yet Rob.....

Not quite 500 calories every other day. (50 is a glass of orange juice!!)

It is doable- cereal or fruit for breakfast
    - cup of soup and oatcakes for lunch
    - and a light meal in the evening

It is tight though, but I tried it at the end of last summer for about six weeks and lost about a stone. But visiting family and friends meant that I always felt I could just do it tomorrow instead. The idea is that you then can eat whatever you like on the other days, but your appetite reduces anyway.

    Hi
I'm on week five of my diet and have lost 5 and 1/2 lbs. Put on 2 1/2 pounds last week - very swollen having a flare-up bad 'time of the month' etc. but determined not to give up this time but.... all this healthy food is costing an absolute fortune! My shopping has gone up from £120.00 per week to £150.00! So I may be losing the pounds off my body but I'm losing even more out of my pocket!!

I hope that the £150 shopping bill is for the whole of your family and not just you!

I wish hydroxy worked for me too... oh well, will power it is.

I admire your will power Jillyb, to loose all that weight without exercise takes real commitment!

If anyone is interested, my OH suggested a searched for an application for my phone (he got me a fancy phone for xmas to replace my brick!). I found a great app. but bonus is there's a website you can use and sync. with your phone if you want (Or you can just use the website). Its totally free of charge.

I've made an account, and there's a daily log of food and exercise to input, lots of food is already in the database but I cook most meals from fresh (helps when on a gluten free diet) so it took a little time to calculate for the meals I make what cals, fat etc is in them -I used google Docs to keep a record cuz I tend to make the same meals each week.

I've never calorie counted before, so maybe it will enlighten me as to what is really bad for me! Like my wonderful chilli contains refried beans which are high in calories, I never thought to check before, but it makes my chilli very thick and creamy like.

Anyway, if anyone is interested - the website is http://www.fatsecret.com/

Hi Val. I stopped taking it after the rheumy told me too on 17th last month, appetite still crap but maybe it might have to get out of my system, if it doesn't come back maybe it wasn't the hydroxy after all
It's the only thing that had changed before appetite went awol though..

    Will wait and see eh?
Today all I have managed to eat is one and a half tea cakes this morning, a few grapes, a handful of crisps and a small piece of Christmas cake.. Not ideal I know but the appetite really isn't there... Oh well, I would be ok with losing another half a stone :wink:
