RA is a type of Inflammatory arthritis. Inflammatory arthritis does not have a positive Rheumatoid factor or any of the erosions seen on the x rays of RA patients.
There are other types of Inflammatory arthritis sero negative RA, psoriatic arthritis, etc etc.
Usually a diagnosis of Inflammatory arthritis means they are not sure which category you will fall into yet.0 -
Hi kmr,
Suzie is right there i think except pa and maybe some of the others do give erosion. There are so many inflamitory ones but most seem to be treated in a very simular way. The modifiers in tablet form, then possibly injections and if they don't work some people get onto the the anti infusions.
Is there a difference? technically but that's about all i think.
have they said what they think you have? Cris x0 -
Hi Kmr
Sorry I am still confused over why OA spreads ,
There are so many arthurs, that was such a shock to read when I first came on here.
I do hope you can get some answers soon.
Good Luck

I'll probably be repeating some of what's been said but this is my understanding......and I'm not a medical professional, just a patient.
RA is a type of inflammatory arthritis and there are lots of types of inflammatory arthritis. I was told that inflammatory arthritis is often seronegative (negative Rheumatoid Factor in blood) and tends to be less erosive than RA but there are exceptions, I know Psoriatic Arthritis is one exception. However, inflammatory arthritis, left untreated, can cause damage the joints too. My rheumy said that she treats seronegative arthritis as aggressively as RA. Some people don't have a positive Rheumatoid Factor in the early stages of the illness and some people never have a positive Rheumatoid Factor.
I hope this helps and I don't promise to know all the facts. This is just the information I have gathered from my appointments.0 -
Thank you my daughter has RA but i was reading about the Inflamatory one and just wondered what the differance was if any, she was diagnosed nearly a year ago she is on mtx and the sulpa one plus 10mg steriods, she still has a lot of swelling especially her wrist which looks terrable when swollen, her consultant advised to try the mtx injections and gave her a fortnight to make up her mind she is back on thursday to see the nurse and hopefully she will have made a decision has to whether she is going to proceed with the injections, she only has to try them for 3 months if there is no improvement the doctor is trying something else(she did say that the next option is expencive to the nhs ) so she needs to try the injections before they will try the next option (didnt say what drug it was).0

Sorry I have brain failure just now... but remember now. Karen isn't it? Well..... There is some vague memory but I do call people the wrong names here and there
I have got more fog in my brain than normal today.
I guess he will go for the funding for one of the infusions if the mtx jabs don't work? Its a hard slog sometimes but hang in there and i so hope they will get on top of it as soon as they can for her.
How are you? Its got to be hard to watch and be able to do nothing? be hooping for you both. Cris x0 -
Hi yes it is karen so you are not to foggy today , as you say as a parent it is very hard as i have said before if i could put my hand on her and take it all away myself i would, but on the positive side she is doing a lot better, she just gets on with things she's a tought cookie :P , hoping the injection works as she would like to compete this year with the horse she couldnt last year due to the pain ect xx hope you are well, its very windy out today0

Hi Karen,
You know my heart goes out to you for this one must be hard. She is doing the right thing though in just getting on with things and hopefully the medics will get their act together and help her. hope she is ok with the injections? Its not fair that this bone stuff comes at any age is it?
Don't forget the people here are there for you as well if you need support or help.
Yep tis windy though ours have died down a bit now at last! Its been a long winter flower but the birds seem to think we have hint of spring..... even the chickens are laying a few eggs again..... not many but any now a days are a shock
You hang in there Karen and fingers crossed that this will help and stop the bone thing in its tracks for her. ((((( ))))) and hopes Cris xx0 -
I may have missed part of the reply, I think theres a bit that needs answering?
OA doesn't 'spread', our susceptibility to it is always there, as time passes, the problem arises and is more in evidence.
How does that sound?
8) Its a grin, honest!
Stir fry tonight, must get preparing!0 -

Hello Karen
Re your post about the next drug option being an expensive one - it may be that they are thinking about one of the anti-tnf drugs (Inflixmab, Humira, Enbrel). Because they are so expensive (approx £10,000 per year I believe) they won't consider them until people have taken other drugs, including methotrexate, first. I think you will find information about these drugs on the "Publications and Resources" section of this site.
If your daughter can think of the meth injections just as a hoop to get through to open the door to other options, it might be easier to deal with.
Thinking of you both.
Love Tilly xxx0
