The blame-claim culture

It's costing the tax-payers of Derby more than £40,000 a year for the City Council to defend itself against spurious insurance claims, eg.

A parent tried to sue Derby City Council after a conker fell on their daughter's head in the school playground.

A man jumped over a foot-high wall late at night only to discover that there was a six-foot drop on the other side, and then tried to claim compensation for his injuries.

Shoppers have also sued for slipping on cabbage leaves and grapes in the city's markets.

A dog walker took legal action when the dog stepped on glass while off the lead.

Whatever will people think of next :?:

It's such a waste of money at a time of cuts in services.

Well we all know who's to blame for all this horrible type of selfishness and general nastiness............
    Yep....
The fat burger bunches from over there....... You know who I mean.. Think I'll sue their country for what it's done to ours... What do you reckon...? Sure I would get one of their stupid greedy lawyers to take the case on, they will do ANYTHING for the green paper.....
    Disgraceful.....

We have become like the states. Makes me so mad. My poor daughter had a father of a daughter that ran out in front of her car ( did knock her down it was in a 20 mile zone thank god.) try to go after her for money. Her mother had waved at her and rather than go a couple of step up the road to a crossing she ran straight in front of my daughter. The police were called and said well done to kirsty...not her fault. The next day we have a call to our house wanting to find out whether kirtsy lived at our address and wanted to speak with her. To cut a long story short got in contact with the police and they made a visit to the father and it went no further. They should not allow these adverts on radios and TV (In fact not heard one recently).

two years ago I tried to see if I could get something after I fell in the snow outside my house due to fife council not even trying to clear the snow. Two years on in still waiting for Fife Council to make their minds up :\. I only did it as it made me off work for a month after it :(.

whoop whoop i love a debate.....
I think you will find but am happy to be proved wrong you CANNOT be done for clearing your path from the snow (hasten to add mine was of the highest standard and salt used). If however if there is damage to a path not repaired etc i am sure you can claim.
I still cannot believe that people do that. As a kid i went over my handle bars and broke my arm. I was 9 years old and had cut across grass on a council estate (grass was long and a rock was hidden). I had my arm in plaster and went to school (after spending all Sunday morning at the hospital bored out of my head. My fathers quote was you will bloody look where you are going next time won't you. So he was right i was more careful and looked. No real harm done but a lesson learn't by me. Next time ride on the road.
