Last mobile weekend for some time

Well, the dreaded Op is almost upon me. Looking forward to my last weekend of mobility for quite some time.
1. Take the dogs for a long walk. I dont care how much it hurts, I just want to take a last walk through the woods as I won't be able to for around 6 months.
2. Go out shopping with my daughter, It's her birthday next month so I would like to get her some gifts that she really wants.
3. Go out somewhere with the family, possibly the cinema followed by a meal out.
4. Pack everything ready for my stay in hospital and the trip to my parents after the Op.
5. Finally, get really really nervous. especially not knowing the level of pain I will be in afterwards and giving myself injections for the first two weeks to stop DVT's (I really hate needles).
Plus a few other last minute things I think of.
Hope everyone is as well as can be.
Trying to look on the bright side of things.

It will all be fine, of that I am sure and you never know, you may well be more mobile faster than you think. Do everything you want this week-end, have a splendid time doing it, I wish you well for Tuesday, some apprehension is to be expected but don't overdo the nerves bit - it's not as tho you are doing the op on yourself - and before you know it those few months will be up and you will be running around like a three year old again, telling everyone how marvellous it all is. Fourteen days of injections, ie 14? Eminently do-able, they won't hurt (do them in your stomach, fewer nerve endings) and at least they are finite. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Rob,
Sounds like a good plan except number 5...... Try not to dwell on that bit too much as they do tend to control your pain quite well and the jabs... they are not so bad honest.
Really wishing you luck and look forward to you coming back the other side. Fingers crossed it all goes really well for you. Cris x0 -
Oh Rob...you enjoy your weekend...I do know what you are going through has my THR is getting ever nearr...the injections for DVT are my worry , I have been trying to think of someone that can do them, I do know that if you cant the district nurses will come out to do them.
I am sure your pain will be kept to minimal, the hospital normally let you administer it after an op, by pressing a button on a line that they will put in you for a couple of days.
My sister in law has just had a shoulder op, so I am going off what she was doing, pressing the button with a big smile on her face.
We will all be here to give you support.
I wish you well with it, time passes quickly so me and you will be having longs walks very soon......not together may I add

Have a lovely weekend doing all the things you have planned ... sounds like you will be going into hospital for a rest after all those activities!!!
Just think, by this time next week, you'll be on the road to recovery.
The advantage of doing the jabs yourself is you can do them first thing each day and then they are over with, if you have the nurse coming in to do them - you will have to have them whenever the nurse calls.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
I wish you the best of luck with your op x0

Dear Rob,
I wish you all the best for your op and hope all goes well. Look forward to reading your future postings. It is scary with an op so near but soon it will be over with and the pain will be less.
All the best

Dear Bobbyger, just read your post about THR,oh my goodness you will be fine,I promise you,it is just the best thing ever,if you are a normal fit human being it's a walk in the park. The new hips these days are specially made of Titanium, made to last for years. You will of course feel a bit groggy for a couple of weeks, and they will make you do things like get out of bed as soon as poss, but you must do this this.Keep turning those ankle joints all the time as soon as your awake.Work your arms also,do a keep fit in your bed, though you won't be in it for long.As for the needles, don't think they do that anymore, now little pinky coloured pills, but if they don't the needles don't hurt.Keep it upright, into a fold of skin,so easy.REFUSE a shower, just body wash as getting clips wet is a no go :!:Wait until they are out and even then, leave for a couple of weeks, before attempting to shower. The hospital will encourage you to shower it's what they do,but trust me on this it's not a good thing to do,Wet clips is definatly what you do not want.Let them dry, give your skin time to heal, will be so much better in the long run of things.I have had 5 ops on my hips so know exactly what I am talking about. You will be walking good in a month, maybe a couple of sticks, but so what you will progress from there.I don't know your history, but as I said if your pretty fit not a problem at all.I wish you well, and look forward to how you get on. Mirabella,
I think you have me confused with someone else, I'm not going in for a THR, it's an ankle fusion I'm having. But thanks for the support.
Well, Just finished the first day of the weekend. the walk with the dogs was nice, weather was beautiful. Suffering for it now though. Got my daughters birthday present, she wanted a new mobile. The only downside was the film she wanted to see wasn't on in the cinema.
Busy again tomorrow, it's our friends sons christening.
Will touch base with you all again soon.
Cheers all.

Good luck for Tuesday and have a good rest at your parent’s house.

Morning bobbyger, how are the butterflies today? I hope you have checked thro mjking's hospital sticky at the top of this forum, it has many good ideas, hints and tips for things to do before going into hospital - mind you, checking it now might be a little late! I hope you are as OK as you can be - keep focused on the benefits, the recuperation time will pass faster than you think - and do try to enjoy that bit of it, it is a positive time - and keep in touch with us as much as you can.
