It looks much better for the disabled, according to a news report today.
Professor Malcom Harrison, the Government's independent expert looking into these work capability assessments, who said in November: "There are clear and consistent criticisms of the whole system and much negativity surrounding the process. There is strong evidence that the system can be impersonal and mechanistic, that the process lacks transparency and that a lack of communication between the various parties involved contributes to poor decision making and a high rate of appeals."
The Government's agreed to implement all his recommendations aimed at taking the decision-making away from the private company, Atos Origin, that arranges the medicals, and improving "fairness and effectiveness".

Let's hope it comes to pass. The system is atrocious, there is little or no understanding by the healthy of the problems we face (and why should there be? It is hard to grasp, even for us affected ones.) I still think the disabled should be the ones to run these things. It would be a challenge, I know, but at least we would understand - and I reckon we would spot the lead-swingers. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I must admit i do wonder how people get away with claiming they have problems when they don't. Poor hubby is having real problem which started yesterday. Walking not very far, hips, lower back pain/loss of sensations and pins and needles in legs. I know stress we are having at the moment is not helping but would you believe he was turned down by the state for disability benefits!!!!(gets via army now)! Yet we know people who have this benefit!!!! given up how it works. I suppose if you are a good lier and know how to work the system you are on a winner.0

Lupin, if your other half served in the armed forces then he should be able to request some one from the british leigion to come and see him and make sure he is getting all the benifits he is entitled to, they can help with forms and everything. it might be worth asking just incase your missing out on some thing.
i hope this new thing is sorted soon, it wont help me i have my wonderful adventures with the medical muppets on monday.

Hubby went through the legion and if it had not been for them we would have lost our house. Brilliant and paid for most of our downstairs shower for him to use. We would have lost everything if it had not been for them.0 -
Thank you Joseph
Fingers crossed is all goes through, we need all the help we can get.

I keep reading conflicting information. But I hate it when the papers announce that X amount of people have been wrongly claiming Invalidity benefits and are now fit for work. These are people found to be fit for work by the ATOS staff and we all know about their medicals.....
