I won't say 'luck', life shouldn't be down to chance. I just posted a topic about so many interviews/medicals and went to check my posting, it landed next to yours, it rather reinforces what I wrote.
Keep smiling.

I hope today is not as bad as you fear: be yourself, but you on a very bad day so they get a feel of how things can be. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

i was well behaved and didnt thump him (i wanted to) when he said he didnt understand how arther affects your life, i told him he would do soon enough as he has it starting in one of his finger judging by shape of his joint, does it ache. he said yes so i told him to imagine that ache all over x it by 100 and he might be close. argh!!!!
well its done now at last now just sit and wait for the disision. not going to get down about it,

hi coco
sorry i missed this yesterday - not been too good - hands are playing up. just want to say fingers crossed x
well done for not thumping him i hate how we're made to feel, no-one really understands unless they are living with it day in and day out - my mum turned round today and said "you shouldn't be taking all those tablets at your age" I just wanted to cry- I know she loves me but where's the support!
sorry for using your thread for a moan it just came rushing out

Isn't it amazing how quickly one human being can assess another on just one meeting? (And we wonder how they manage to do it with us when we do it so well ourselves.) I think his question was a genuine one: people who don't live with continual pain have no idea how it affects one's life - all being well your answer might have given him a clue. We do live our lives that way and it is hard to explain to those who don't just get how deleterious it is to all aspects of our health. I also hope they didn't spot your irritation (which was no doubt a result of nerves). Fingers crosssed it goes your way - you need some better luck, coco. Let us know when you hear the outcome. katie its fine hun, its hard and frustrating when people dont understand. (((()))) for you and you moan away on here as much as you need . we all do it and it sometimes helps just to let off a bit of steam. keep your chin up your not alone.
Thanks DD, i know it is hard for others to understand but these medicals are set up to be awful. there is no where to put that just because one day i can get out of bed and drive my car ten mins down the road doesnt mean the next day i wont pay for it and not be able to do anything. its either you can or you will. i took my friend with me who has worked in the medical field and she couldnt belive what stupid questions he asked. she was very shocked to say the least. he was rude to her as soon as we walked in and made it obvious hed have been happier if i was alone. i did my best to explain things but he wasnt interested. just kept saying or aim is to get you back to work and atos dont make the desision on if i can have esa or not. i was very polite and placid, but it was hard
still its done now and we stal see what happens.0 -

I feel sorry that you had to go through this process, infact I feel sorry for anyone who is genuinely ill or disabled that has to go through this. There is no doubt that a system does need to be in place to weed out the dodgers.
-- BUT--I strongly believe that the people who undertake these assessments need to know their stuff. I cannot believe that an assessor actually said that he couldn't understand how arthritis affects you - Its his job to understand the disabilities he is assessing and the variables that go with the various different forms of Arthritis and related conditions -- and he gets paid very well for that job too!
It is an outrage and a costly outrage too. The people that undertake these assessments need to be competent. Their role is to ensure that the dodgers dont abuse the system and claim benefits fraudulently, but along with that role they have the responsibility to make judgements not on their opinion - but on facts and evidence. I really do think that these assessments should be undertaken by people who suffer and understand the disability or illness that the person they are assessing suffers. Or by medics who have specialist knowlege and training in a particular area.
I hope that your comments have made your assessor look at his mishapen finger .... and think!
Good Luck I really hope that you dont have to go down the assessment process - thats more stress you could do without.

How can healthy people assess us? They don't have an understanding of what we face (why would they?) and they certainly don't have the experience of a long-term, on-going condition. The system is flawed from the beginning. If you don't have arthritis (or other conditions) how can you understand how it affects a person? Just from reading about it? If we all understood things from reading about them well, the world would be a fabulous place. I think tiredness is showing - time to go! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this.
