Hiya to everyone,
hope you are all doing well on this valetines day

Sorry have not been on for quite a while guys as you all no ive been waiting to have my operations on my knee..............well its finally happened i had my 1st op just before xmas the consultant said he just managed to get some cartledge cells from my knee so they were grown over xmas and as far as i am aware grew quite abit (thank god), im lying here on the sofa with my leg up having had 2nd op at the beginning of feb to have the grown cartledge re-inplanted into my knee, consultant said that op went very well i have a lovely scar down my knee but hey im not vain so not bothered at all about that, i have to pairtly weight bear for 4wks then not to sure after that, i see the physio on thursday hoping she not to bad with me because it slightly sore and swollen at the moment........only bad thing was the fact i ended up with a blood clot on the calf of my operated leg which im not happy about but thats a long story, apart from having to have daily injections, warfarin and blood tests constantly im doing ok i think its my poor better half thats totally stressed having to run about after me.

Hope you all enjoying this winter sunshine

    Hiya Tracey

Quick version, i have osteoarthritis in both knees and rt hip, rt knee is worse, need new knees but to young at 31, consultant put me foward for a new trail to re-grow my own cartledge in lab then re-inplant it, wont feel any real benefit for 14months but im prepared to wait as it was my only option.

    hope that makes sense :???:

    thankyou for the good wishes

    Hi jo-ann
Glad you are home and taking it easy.
Good luck with the physio on thursday.
I think iit is an amazing process that you have had and hope that it doesn't take the said time of 14 months for you to benefit.
I hope you feel it sooner. But hey as you have said you can wait and it will all be worth it.
    Take care

Had blood tests again today got to wait for the nurse to call me back with my INR level so that i no what warfarin tablets to take, received my follow up appointment with the consultant which is the 18th March so much for seeing him within 4wks of surgery, rang and spoke to his secretary who has said that if im having problems she can bring me in sooner, not sure if there is a problem or if it just because of the op (can't feel the outta part of my knee) or maybe i'm being paranoid because of the dvt anyway see physio tomorrow so going to see what she thinks. Think the secretary was only being nice because there been a big meeting and an extreme incident forms etc been filled in because of the muck up of getting this dvt, the nurse said to make sure i put a complaint form in as she is not happy at all with the nurses on the ward not doing there job of giving the injections (asked the nurse about the consultants giving me inj and she just said no) actually she was the same about pain relief!!
Hope you are all making the most of this little bit of sunshine that we are getting x

    Hi Jo-Ann

I'm glad that you have had your operation, and that you are making a good recovery. It is pioneering treatment which you have received, so I do hope that it will be a big success. It would be so great if we could all grow new cartilage like that and so avoid knee replacements. It's a shame that the nursing care after your op. hasn't been as good as it should have been. Good luck with your recovery.

    Hiya

Well we are nearly 4 weeks after my op and things are going ok, alot of pain in the part of my knee that hasnt been operated on and quite a bit swelling cant wait to be able to sleep normally, on a good note i can finally lift my leg without having to physically do it myself so the muscles and nerves seem to be getting slightly better, becasue of the type of operation ive had no-one really knows what the recovery is and what is good or bad so little worried about that but hey hoping the consultant knows what hes doing, had another blood test yesterday to check my INR levels they have come down quite alot which is a bad thing so back on the injections and my warfarin dose right up again, think everything would be quite running perfectly if it wasnt for having the blood clot after the operation but i'l get answers as to why protocol wasnt followed believe me! Hope you are all doing fine on this saturday night sp soon

    Hi Jo-Ann

I'm glad to hear that your recovery is progressing quite well. It's a shame about the blood clot, but hopefully that will settle down soon. I guess that all the doctors are monitoring you very carefully because of it being such a new type of treatment, and I'm sure that they will be doing all they can to make it a success.

    Hiya
not sure of the surgical name for it is, but basically cartledge cells taken from my knee, grown in a lab till they were 7cm by 7cm then grafted back into my knee

Looks like a real barrel of laughs
I have a similar scar on the inside of my left knee (not quite as long), was supposed to be some new fandangled super fine stitching technique, hardly any scar, all the stitches would be on the inside or something.... It looked really great, scar was barely visible, but he had trapped all the nerves on that side of my knee and I couldn't even wear my trousers... It was really bad.
So they had to do it again, of course now I have a smashing fat scar

Does look like they have done a neat job eh? I hope that the nerve thing is just temporary... One thing I learned to do with my scar is to rub it (a genie pops out and grants... No, wrong story, lol) with maybe some oil or cream or something, it stimulates the nerves...
Worked a bit for me which is saying something considering how bad it was at first.
