Hi Cath...
I am sure by law you do not have to do more than your contract hours.. but sometimes they say in contracts in small print that you agree to do more hours if necessary.. have you got a copy of your contract?
I think you done really well sticking to your guns.. you have tried to work with them as best as you can.. at least you know that you have tried..
40 hr week seems crazy, do you think you could manage it??
I had a conversation with my supervisor today and she said to me it doesn't sound like you will be able to come back to work so once occy health have assesed you we will have a meeting to discuss where we go from there..
I wish you well and i hope they get back to you soon.. keep us posted.xxTracyxx0 -
Hi Cath
And well done you for asking all the right questions, I bet you felt drained when you came out.
I suppose it is a waiting game now, I really do wish you well, and everything crossed that they give in to the part time.

Hi Cath
Sorry I didn't knwo this was happening today.....only got back from my hols last night :???:
Gosh this does sound hard.
Is there no other job they can offer you within the workplace? I think they may have to look at that....such as admin or anything which lessens the physical impact of working.
40 hours is a long enough week. To be honest I know what they mean - it is often a case that shift leader type roles do lead to you 'covering' shifts when peopel are on leave/go sick etc.
Having said that i do not think that staff shortages (which is what it sounds like) is an excuse for 'forcing' you to work more than your contracted hours.
Have you thought about ringing ACAS for advice?
Love

Hi Caterina,
Well the balls in their court for the time being. Well done for getting your points across.
Give yourself time to do some research as I do think that they are asking too much of you.

Morning everyone
I really dont know what I would do without you all.
Thanks for your comments and support.
Just a slight update, when I came back from the meeting yesterday I sat and thought about what had been said and more importantly recorded. At the end of the meeting I was asked to sign the notes that had been taken at the time (which are being sent to head office) I read them and signed them.
But having thinking about it realised that some quite important details had been ommitted for example, that I was no longer able to work 12-14 hour days and that although I was requesting to work my contracted hours I dont mind how those hours are worked (early mornings, nights, weekends) as long as they dont exceed 40hrs. The notes seemed to make a slant to me agreeing to me working my normal contract hours of 9-5.
Anyway I immediately sent an email summarising my understanding of the meeting and what was agreed including what I feel are the important points that have been ommited and given permission for my version to be sent along to head office with their notes.
I dont know if I have done right or wrong but felt that I needed to set the record straight before any final decisions are made.

Good for you for emailing them: to get you to sign things at the end of a long, detailed and complicated meeting I suppose is par for the course but with one's brain fizzing away it's a lot ot expect you to clock every little detail! Keep records of everything, caterina57, I suspect they could come in handy. I hope you are feeling OK today - is there a little relief that this is bit is done and dusted for the time being? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi everyone -
As far as I can tell, the ball is now in their court. I doubt I will get an employee of the month sticker and doubt very much that I am popular with either management or my colleagues. However I have to look after my own interests and my priority has to be my health and ensure that I strike a healthy work/life balance. I have decided that I am no longer going to be bullied or made to feel guilty. And I am certainly not paid enough (Just above min wage) to put up with all this rubbish. It is interesting though that my employer has not acknowleged receipt of my email.
DD I do have some relief that this meeting is over and that I have laid my terms ( upon medical advice) for return on the table. I do not feel that I have been unreasonable and have placed various options for them also. Out of my hands now and I will just have to wait and see. Of course I will let you all know what happens as it happens.
