SODS LAW

Well I guess it's my own fault.
I had my 6 monthly hospital checkup last Wednesday. I arrived at my appointment feeling rather smug. On my previous appointment I had arrived feeling pretty awful. Painfull wrists, painfull feet, sore shoulder, aching just about evrywhere and feeling prety grotty.
This time I was feeling great, my meds were working a treat, no real pain to speak of, coping with work. Yep feeling very happy with my lot.
So, my doc was very happy with me, told me to carry on as we are and come back in 9 months for next checkup. Great I thought, this I can live with.
Anyway, woke up on Monday morning for work and my shoulder felt a bit stiff as did my wrists. As the day went on I felt worse and worse. By Tuesday night I could just about manage the drive home. I went straight to bed shivering and aching all over, my wrists are painfull and I seem to be limping due to pain in my lower legs.
Thankfully today (wednesday) is my day off so am stopping in bed for some restbite.
Well I guess that's life when living with a cronic illness. You think you've cracked it and then it come back and bites your bum.

Morning Petal
Sorry you are suffering at the moment, yes you are right it is sods law, the unpredictability and variation of Athritis is a challenge in itself without considering the pain and the limitations that pain brings.
Enjoy your duvet day and look after yourself, we are here for you and understand what you mean

Hi Petals..
I know that feeling of feeling great one day then it all falling to pieces the next... I think that arthur likes to jump out and make us suffer when we least expect it..So sorry you are having soem bad days.. maybe you do need to have some rest.. in bed today sounds like a gd plan..
Don't let things get too bad though.. if you start to suffer too much then make an appointment with your GP or may be your rheumy's appointment can be brought forward..
Hope you get back to to your happy and pain free self soon..
Big hugs(((((x)))))xxTracyxx0 -
Thanks Cath,
I sometimes think that because RA is invisible to others, you kind of lack sympathy from friends and family when you are not feeling great. I know they try to understand but unless you have lived with a condition you can never appreciate how it can affect the whole of your life in so many ways.
My other half mentioned recently that he fancied a skiing holiday next year. He couldn't understand how horrified I was at the very idea. The thought of falling down on my poor weak wrists or squeezing my feet into those rigid ski boot things, not to mention the cold.
Nope, i'm afraid the days of skiing, cycling, running (or even walking fast) are over for me. From now on a nice sunny beach, sun bed, ice cream and a good book are order of the day for my holls. And if i'm feeling energetic a stroll down to the bar for a nice cool beer should do it lol.
Thanks Cath i'm feeling better already x0 -
Hi Tracy,
Thank you for your support. This site is a godsend when your feeling down. People on here are so friendly and supportive and also so knowlegable. I think that some of the posters on here know more about this condition than some of the GPs.
Thankyou to everbody who contributes to the forum. It would be a very lonly road to travel it by yourself.
Thankyou x0 -
You could go on a skiing holiday, it isn't mandatory that you ski. Mr DD loves walking, I can't now so he does it on his own. Just because my life has stopped does not mean that his has to - we both have to adjust in many ways, and that is one of them. I too want to go the mountains - I regret never trying to ski, now I can't, but I am sure I could still enjoy the experience! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello DD,
Yes I know what you mean but I think that if I went on a skiing holiday I know I would just want to join in the fun with everyone else. The temptation would prove too much and I would end up hurting myself.
It's the same when I go to one of those 'all you can eat buffets' I always say that I will take it easy and not over do it but temptation always gets the better and I come home feeling fat and bloated and just wishing I had stopped eating two plates ago lol.
I guess i'm weak willed x0 -
Hi Petals,
This is just so typical of living with arthur - I hope you feel better soon
What I would like to add is that don't rule all those things out of your life as there's nothing to say you won't ever partake again. Should you decide to book a skiing holiday and you're not at your best you can always arrange that your Rheumy gives you a steroid injection before you go to calm everything down and then if you are tempted to have a go don't hold back.
You have to think of your OH too as our spouses have to sacrifice such a lot of their lives and dreams in order to be with us, so if you can find a way round this you may find a solution which suits you both.Love, Legs x

Hello Petals
Sorry you are struggling so much again, specially after feeling so good at your appt. The title of your post is very apt.
Make the most of your day off today and rest as much as you possibly can. I am sure it helps.
Thinking of you and hoping the arthritis gets back in its box again soon.
