Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I carnt find anything in the search bar.

I'm thinking about buying some Skechers Women's Shape-Up trainers, as they look so comfy & cushioned.

Does anyone have these, & what do they think about them ?

I have OA in my left hip & need something to take the impact out of my strike.

    HI
I bought some with the same idea that they would be comfy for my feet as I love Sketchers anyway and I have RA. This was not the case for me they sent my knees mental the pain was intolerable, I know another person with RA who found they caused immense ankle pain. But they may be helpful to you. Go into a shop and ask if you can try them for a bit maybe walk in the shop for a bit to see how you feel then wait a day or two to see if they have caused youre joints to hurt if not and theyre comfy give them a go. I purchased them the same day because they were comfy but the day after my knees were really bad. Luckily my sis in law is the same size shoe so was very pleased.

    Good luck

I have wondered about these, MBTs etc. I don't think I have the joints anywhere in my legs for 'em now, you have to go and try for yourself and try for some time if possible: they could be a very expensive mistake. DD

    hi

i've got OA in many joints now - i bought MBT's to help with the pain in my feet and found them to be very very comfy. I wore them every day for about 18 months however, apart from being very expensive I found them to be heavy which made me tire very quickly. that said i will be looking out for some more but will wait for the sales.

best to go to a proper shoe fitter though as you have to get a smaller size than you would normal wear.

    hope this helps.

Thats the problem isnt it DD, to get the right shoe it can end up being a costly mistake as its ok walking around the shop in them & they feel fine. Then you get home, really wear them & they end up making your pain worse !

    Thanks for the reply.

I have looked at the MBTs & yes they are expensive, which is why I thought the sketchers would be worth a try. Ohhhh theres too much choice ...hahaha I dont know what to try .. but I do like the science behind the MBTs.

Thanks for the help Katie.

i know what you mean about too much choice - i'm tempted to get the skechers shape-up that are like a shoe rather than a trainer so i can wear them for work.

let me know which you go for and how you get on - they will make you ache for a while so dont over do it.

I have seen the Sketchers that are like shoes, I think they would be ideal for the work place.

    Hi all

Interesting thread and might be of use to me. Can someone pm me what MBTs are please? I wear trainers for work with cushioned support socks but if there is something a bit more shock absorbant it could save me aching knees each night.
    thanks

    Hi all,

I looked at the sketchers shape-ups but didnt think they'd be right for me. I did however buy some Karimore walking trainers and some sketcher biker style trainers, both in the sale I wear my karimore's at work they're dead comfy supportive and have a cushioned sole... i didn't need any insoles in them but i would suggest getting a size or 1/2 size smaller coz they will give a little....

    good luck with the hunt

    Hi All

Thanks for the link on pm Rictina. There is a stockist near me so I will have a peek sometime though the price might put me off rather.
Sorry Lynnie yes you have mentioned these before, so sorry memory like a sieve here at the moment. They do sound like they help some folks but wonder if my funny walk is now incurable. Won't hurt to make some enquiries though.

I know what you mean Chris the MBTs are very expensive, the nearest stockist for me is a good 200 mile away.

I feel with something as specialist & expensive as these trainers that you really need to go & try them on, rather than guessing & ordering from the net.

I would love to try the MBTs but I think the Sketchers are more within my price range, lol.

    HI Rictina,

I too have debated the sketchers shape ups in the past. However I decided against them as according to the blurbs they are meant to tone and work the muscles - and I felt I was sore enough already. Have you seem them on the net or in a shop where you can try them first? What about ordinary sketchers - good shock resistant soles and a familiar design?

Either way looking forward to hearing what you decide.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

How are things today, Rictina? Any aches and pains? Less than usual? More than usual? I do wonder about these things but I reckon for someone on crutches they would be a waste of money - I'm propped as I cannot walk independently so what would be the point of them? DD

    Hi DD

Today I have no more aches & pains than I normally do. I can honestly say that none of my muscles are aching.

Awww bless you sweetheart, I didnt know that you were on crutches.

They feel very squishy underneath the arch of the foot, I do love the feeling & support they give me.

HI Rictina, they sound successful for you.

I have a leg length discrepancy and flat feet which over pronate (my ankles turn in) and I wear a heel raise and also insoles to correct this. This makes buying shoes really tricky and I seem to be stuck in one pair, unless I leave out the insoles. Your new trainers sound like they might support the foot enough not to need the insoles - can you send me a link - I have looked at different skechers ones, but an a bit bamboozled and am curious.

Hope they continue to be comfy for you.

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has worn these post ankle fusion. I think I may need something like these or the MBT version once my recovery is well under way.

Rictina, Glad they seem to be wworking for you, long may it last.

    Hey Rictina,

I tried some on recently and had a little wander around the shop - the pain in my knees was awful and I couldn't get them off my feet fast enough! Not too kind on the joints in my opinion, although the 'normal' trainers are very comfortable and I've been wearing those for years! 8) xx

Oh no alarkra .. how awfull for you *hugs*.

I must admit I did try one pair of the shape ups, Im not sure what they were called, they were black thats all I know, lol .. & they were quite tricky to walk in.

I tried the all terrain ones on that I bought & the cushioning in the middle isnt as large .. I didnt want to take them off as soon as I tried them, they were heaven.
