Unscheduled workout

I've just accidentally discovered a new exercise.

1. Realise the laptop's plug must have pulled loose as the red light is flashing.
2. Put down laptop, go over to wall and (probably due to watching Leeds v Hull Superleague) aim kick at plug which is about 18" from the floor
3. Miss. Fall over backwards with force of attempted kick (Wow! Quite impressed I can kick hard enough to do that), trip over spouse's book (on floor as usual) and just manage to fling self into armchair rather than landing on floor.
4. Think. This is not one of the chairs I can get out of. Spouse is naturally out in local hostelry
5. Make several attempts to launch self onto arm of chair. (I can stand from there.) Great toning exercise for non-existent biceps.
6.Accept this will not worrk. Need more height.
7. Wriggle out of gilet, screw it up, shove it under my bottom.
8. Try again. Almost. Must succeed next time as arm 'muscles' packing in.
9. One more go. Half bottom makes it. Again. Other half makes it.
10. Stand up. Yipee!

Do not try this at home, folks, but I've definitely had a great workout and can now save on central heating as I'll take the rest of the evening to cool down.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Next time go to hostelry with spouse - at least if you 'fall' over in there, there should be hands to help! I hope you are OK sticky, I dread falling as I cannot get up very easily. Methinks you will be feeling the after-effects today, especially in those non-existent arm muscles. Will you confess to your antics? DD

No after effects. Last time I fell was exiting a restaurant. I'd forgotten pavement sloped downwards. Head first. Son turned round just in time to stick a long leg out & get his foot under my head before it hit pavement. Brother remarked if he'd timed it wrong he'd have booted me straight back into restaurant. Diners all enthralled with entertainment. Should have passed hat round.

    Oh SW
I am sorry but you did make me laugh, when you said you didnt think you could kick like that, we really dont know what we are capable of
I hope you have recovered from it all.
The daft things we do, I was doing exercises on the bed , so I came up with the idea of hooking my feet under the headboard, I was still there when OH came home an hour and half later
    You take care

Glad you are ok sticky and was able to get up.
I have fallen a couple of times out of wheelchair when I haven't been able to wear my leg. I have had to ring OH to come home and pick me up.
I have no strength in my arms no matter how hard I tried. Its a good job I always have a phone at hand.
Falls always shake you up but we always manage to laugh about it later.
    Take care .

    Hi SW,

Really made me smile that you lift yourself up onto the arm of the chair to stand up - i've done that so many times!! its good that you took something positive out of a potentially upsetting situation and saw the humour in it all.
Hope you take it a bit easier in future, could have been so much worse!

    Hi Sticky,

Hopefully your workout hasn't done you too much aches and pains? made me smile though I wouldn't had i seen you do it  Falls eh, you always got to make sure your near something you can use to help get you back up and that's something I need to practice a bit here and there.

Public falls... now they are really something... I always feel i should do a quick bow when I managed to get up  Hopefully you will stick to the scheduled workouts for a bit now. Cris x

Barbara, you have made my day. Luckily, I've been home all day because, from time to time, I've thought of this and just burst out laughing. Usually, when I do this it's in a silent waiting room or church or somewhere equally embarrassing.

I bet your OH thought your marital life had just taken an interesting turn.

We really do need a cartoonist for these forums.

Skezier I've developed a knack of flinging myself round in mid fall to the nearest armchair. (That's probably why I came unstuck when I fell on the pavement - no armchair!)

Thanks Frogmorton and Valval for your kind words.

The body is as good as ever(!). I'm afraid there's no hope for the head.

Valval, I'm usually pretty good at carrying the phone about with me. I just didn't think I'd need it when walking across the room. Must stop kicking plugs. Or must start practising kicking plugs.
