right sided chest and back pain

Hi every-one not been about for a while, I'm needing some advice as usual you always come up trumps for me a big Thankyou. Four weeks ago I had pain in the right side of my chest after a couple of days it affected my back as well, it's like stabbing pains going through my chest to my back, and other times its like someone stabbing me in the back. I went to the gp they said I was suffering from imflammation under my chest, linking it to arther, when I saw my Rhuemmy nurse she said nothing to do with arther it's a diffent type of inflammation. Very confusing. After three weeks a few spots appeared feeling totally fed up with the not knowing whats going on went back to gp guess what :!: :!: As I had a few (FOURSPOTS) she decided to treat it as shingles as a precaution I honestly don't think it is shingles. Well still got the pains and off to see Rhuemmy nurse on monday. Anybody any ideas please.
Frogmorton if you read this that is where I am living sorry its taken so long to get back to you

Hi June,
I hope they will decide what it really is there. Its got so many possible reasons they maybe should try and find out for sure but i get a lot of referred pain from back to ribs but not the same side and not consistent.
Good luck with the rumo nurse and maybe you could see your rumo for a bit of a better idea on the inflammation thing? Not sure but hope they will do something to help you this time. Let us know how you get on please? Cris x0 -
Hi June
Good to see you but sorry you feel so rough. I get pain through me sometimes and it was so bad I had allsorts of tests on my heart (both aprents died young due to their hearts) stress tests rest tests a 48 hour monitor etc. They found nothing and i felt silly
I live with it now as it comes and goes, but it scares me still - I reckon mine are panic attacks :???:
My youngest daughter has had shingles. She is still asleep so I can't check for sure, but she did have spots (only a handful too), they were like tiny blisters? and she did have pain that's how we noticed.
Hope you get it sorted
Love

Hi it could be shingles my youngest lad had just two blisters on the back of his neck...was in a lot of pain and that turned out to be shingles. We were all so surprised....took quite a while for him to recover from it. They told us that once you have had chicken pox the virus lays dormant in your system and comes out as shingles when you are run down....you will need to rest.0

Hi thanks for the replies, I am off to see the Rhuemy nurse tomorrow afternoon hope she can shed some light. I had a xray last Tuesday they said about aweek to 10 days for the result of that. When I saw the gp Monday she gave me some medication for shingles, but I am still in pain with back and chest surly if it was shingles the medication would have kicked in by now. I forgot to mention that I have been reducing my steroids I have got it down to 2.5mg hope they don't ask me to put it up, I really want to be off them. Junex0

Hi June, sorry you are feeling bad at the moment. My first diagnosis was shingles, (I know, I am retired, but I still like to make the occasional diagnosis). When you mentioned spots, not everyone gets nasty blisters, that burst, but shingles will follow a nerve pathway and go in a ring around your torso, or face, etc. There is little point in treating it with zovirax tablets, as you have to catch it very early, like cold sores, at the first twinges.
Could be muscular pain, indigestion, that can travel from front to back, no pain in your neck or arm I trust?
I won't diagnose any more, I will go back into retired Matron mode. Let us know how the visit to the rheumy nurse goes and if you are not happy, go back to see the Dr. Take care, XXX BubblesXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0 -

Sorrry you still feel rough...when Lucy had them we were told to avoid anyone on chemotherapy (think the shungles virus is airborne?)and I am sure the meds didn't actually DO much either!!
She felt better after about a week or so.
Is it worth ringing the rheumy nurse before you go?
Good luck
Love

That's a good idea frog - I would ring before, joon51, just to check that they are happy to see you. I have not had shingles so I don't know about the medication, but some drugs can take a little while to start being effective, can't they? I hope you are feeling better. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi joon51, did you go to the rheumatology department today? If so, what did they say? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi I am still not any the wiser. Toni and DD I rang the rhuemy nurse on Thursday and got the secretary she said to still keep the appointment the nurse will have a look and be able to tell me one way or the other. Arrived for my appointment nurse called me in I told her what had been going on (pain for the last 4 weeks in chest and back a couple of spots appearing 2 weeks ago,) she had a look said it could be a mild case of shingles. If it is shingles the pain can last for weeks.
Bubbles the medication the gp put me on was valtrex, which I have now finished.
I am to go back in 4 weeks hopefully I will be ok by then. In the meantime I am to cut my pred to 2.5mg one day miss the next vice versa for a couple of weeks then 2 days no pred 1 day 2.5mg for another couple of weeks then stop. Hooray I hope.

So shingles it is and let's hope the meds work soon! As for the pred, the very best of luck with that, getting down fromn 2.5 to nothing can be very hard - I wish you well, I am doing the same thing but over a much longer time scale and in very small decreasings! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
