Before my op I used to take co-codamol 30/500 two tablets 4 times a day. although, all that done was take the edge off the constant pain. It most definately did not make any difference to the sharp pain when I overcompressed my ankle joint or put too much weight on it.

    I take 1 x 50mg diclofenac daily and paracetamol as and when required (usually 4 x 500 mg daily),plus bumetanide 1 x 1mg daily to reduce swelling.

Fortunately my ankle OA usually only gives me pain when I put weight on it (ie when I stand or walk!!).

    I take:

    co-codomal 30/500 - 2 tablets 4 times a day
    gabapenthin 300 - 1 tablet 3 times a day
    diclofenac 50 - 1 tablet 3 times a day
    opremazol - 1 tablet a day

My Gabapenthin might be increased to 2 tablets 3 times a day and to be put on amitriptyline as well.

Sometimes I wonder if I am still on this planet. I cant take anything that is morphine based as I am allergic to it.

I wouldnt mind taking this lot if I actually thought they were helping with the pain.

I've gone from co-codamol to Tramadol SR, which seem to help me more and just increased my amatriptylne at night. made me very sleepy for a week or so when the dose was upped but I'm getting used to it now. Hope this helps you. I think we are all different also we get used to the drug we are on and sometimes just a change might help. Love Sue

I have just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and bilateral arthritis in both knees and hips.

    At the moment I take
    150mg amitriptyline at around 8pm
    2x8/500 co-codomol - 4 times a day
    2x400mg ibuprofen 3 times a day

Was on gabapentin but my body doesn't like it. Have to go back to Dr and maybe get put onto pregabalin.

    Hi
    I Take
    Co-codamol 30/500 up to 4 x daily
    Diclofenac 100mg slow release
    lanzoprazole 30mg
    Amitriptyline 20mg -50mg
    Ibuprofen
and when muscle spasms kick in diazepam!

None of the above completely take the pain away, I find they dull the pain and help that way, and don't even touch the stiffness.

What are you taking, lavenderlady? I don't have OA but I think one of the greatest problems we all face is that what works for one may not work for another. It is one of the most frustrating and exasperating things about this whole arthritis malarkey - and the most disappointing. I hope you find something to suit in due course. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hi Caterina, I would be very careful taking both diclofenic and iboprufen. Have you checked this with pharmacist/GP?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Lavenderlady,

do you take an anti-inflammatory as well as painkillers. I take Arcoxia and it works well for me. I then add painkillers on top as needed.

    Hello Michelle,

I don't have OA, I have RA. I take celebrex and I find it really quite useful. I can't tolerate the full-dose, which is a shame because it helps.

We're all individuals, so it can be trial and error. We all understand here, so don't be alone with the pain.

I am not taking anything at the moment. I am just coping will a dull ache all the time and have got used to it. I have taken all the usual prescribed pills before and none helped. When I do have a bad spell, I use the Ibrufen gel.
