my DR wished me happy 50th birthday for saturday yesterday and my reply was I've reached the top and am now on my way down to crippling old age and feel so fed up, he said medical treatment is changing all the time so we'll cope , I do hope so because at times it does get me down like everyone else with Arthritis we have good and bad days but the bad days are starting to increase, Arthritis is such an evil thing to cope with michelle x

Happy Birthday for Saturday Michelle, Arthritis is bloomin awful, and as I was saying to a good friend today, no one really understands unless you suffer from it too. That's where the forum comes in, the support, kindness, advice and laughs I've had on here is amazing.
We are all here for you, please enjoy your Birthday, things will get easier.
I seem to remember you are living on IOW? I'm from Ventnor myself and soo looking forward to spending summer there, it never fails to lift me.
    Big hugs ((())) Poppy X

    Happy Birthday Lavender for Saturday,
Sometimes life can throw us some real rough deals. When I was 46 yrs old my husband of 23 yrs passed away very suddenly (heart attack) being left with 3 children, the youngest was 10 yrs at the time, I was feeling very much as though my life was probably pretty much over. I then developed RA.
However, six years later I have managed to change my life around. First I began to take driving lessons as we had just bought a new car and it was sitting on the driveway while I messed around catching busses everywhere. Six months later I passed my test. I found myself a new job which I am still doing and then I met my current partner.
The kids have now grown up, the youngest one is at college and the eldest is about to present me with my second grandchild.I have had the hardest of times , but, life is not finished until it is finished. I will be 51 on Friday. My RA is a pain and I have to admit that I sometimes feel sorry for myself when it flairs but hey I want a telegram from HRH so I have another 49 yrs to go and I am looking forward to every one of them. Please dont give in Lavender there is a future for you and it may be a lot better than you think.
    Best wishes Petals x

    Morning lavenderlady
I want to wish you happy birthday for saturday and I hope by then you will feel much better.
It was my birthday the other week and I was 48 but just thought to myself it is only a day older than the day before.

Arthur is horrible but please don't let him spoil your special birthday
I will take him off your hands for the day and lock him in my cupboard.

Hi Michelle, Happy birthday, hope you have a lovely day and get to pamper yourself a bit. Sometimes its feels a bit too hard to brush yourself down and get on with things, but my motto is "don't let the bu****s get you down", so be defiant at 50, take life by the scruff of the neck and let it know that the game aint over yet, you have a lot more living to do yet girl, go for it!
Love and hugs, Brenda xx

Lavenderlady - there is no top with arthritis. It's uphill all the way but, hey, we get some great views. You're a mere slip of a thing at 50. Concentrate on what you can do not what you can't. Everytime you've to abandon one project, start up another. With the internet at our fingertips the possibilities are endless. Enjoy your birthday to the max. If you have a price to pay tomorrow then so be it. Ensure the pleasure outweighs the pain.

Petals - I take my hat off to you. Well, I would if I was wearing one and if I could reach up that far. You are an inspiration. Keep on inspiring us.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi Lavenderlady,
I was born in Isle of Wight as was my Dad, we moved to Middlesex (dads work) when I was young and I live in Hillingdon now. My parents have a house in Ventnor near my Grandparents, aunt and cousins so most summers I go 'back home' with my hubby and 3 lads. We would move back in a heartbeat but the boys are all in good schools and the eldest is in 6th form so until they leave education we'll be based here.
The boys love it and it's a 2nd home to them, they have more freedom when we go back as everyone knows everyone and I know someone will be keeping an eye out for them.
Always loved Sandown, not surprisingly the lads love the pier!
Hope you are well? Hugs x

    Hi Elizabeth,
Small world! 2 of mine were born in Hillingdon and youngest born at home (not intentionally but that's another story!). I'm glad I live where I do, lots of friends and I have a lot of family in Harrow on the hill and pinner on my mums side and we are a big family so it is home, but will always have soft spot for Ventnor.
Hope the spring sunshine is cheering your day as much as it is mine, and you are as painfree as possible hugs x

    Hi Lavenderlady

Have a lovely birthday today, hope your being spoilt.

I am nowhere near any of you, I live in Kent, have done all my life. Tunbridge wells to be exact, and it is not a posh place as some my my old friends seem to think.

I am to be 52 in june so know how you feel. I usually feel about in my 90's with all the pain.

Any way, have a really good day.

    Hi Tanith
I have PA and it's deformed my fingers so I see a lovely girl at Mt Vernon hand therapy who depending on how inflamed my fingers are gives me hand wax treatment which is heavenly! I think I'll need physio once the cast is off for my broken wrist, not sure where that'll be though, back for more X-rays at Hillingdon on Wednesday.

Do you have Nurse Brown as a contact point? She has been lovely too. Tanith when I was referred for physio I was too ill to do anything so they let me just lie down and cry with some heated towels for company. Physio after my THR was very helpful. I find housework is enough physio for me!

    Hi Michelle,
It's funny we started talking about our Isle of Wight connection, and then I find out that actually there are people not far from where I live and I even share a Rheumy!
We go back home to IOW end of July come back beginning Sept, Im such a big kid but I love the carnivals!
Hope you are feeling ok with your wrist? My wrist is getting very uncomfortable in the cast, it's fine so long as you don't knock the thumb, otherwise tramadol is in order.
    Take care hugs X
