Hi,
I'm 25 and my mother, my nan on my mother's side and my nan on my dad's side have all been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I've been to the doctors and they have sent me for 2 blood tests as my 1st one came back with slightly raised crp levels. Past few weeks I have been suffering with a swollen knuckle on my left hand and my right hand my index finger keeps going numb and wrist it playing up. I can't undo the button on my jeans without pain going through my hand and wrist. Every now and then my shoulder will be unmovable and my ankle gets swollen. Is this one of the many signs of arthritis?

Hi Wendy,
Welcome to the forums but sorry you have had to find it.
It could be as stiffness and pain with swelling makes it possible but hopefully the bloods will come back soon and they will have a better idea as to what is gong on for you.
Do you have to wait long for the results now? Fingers crossed they will be ok and also that you will get some help to calm it down if it is or if it isn't arthritis. nice to meet you. Cris x0 -
hi Wendy welcome to the forum, even if your blood tests are not showing anything raised pointers, mine didnt but I still have both OA quite severly and sero negative which menas a type of Rhumatoyed with out the markers in blood tests (I think thats right) my main problem is OA in all my joints, my nan had both types quite badly in fact I wear her rings as my knuckles like hers were, are so deformed and swollen they fit well, my nans twin also had it bad and my mum but I seem to have it worse then mum she seems to have escaped the full onslaught of OA but has had a knee replaced , for some reason mums side of the family have all got it to some degree with me having it throughout my body, I think I always knew i would inherit it but not as bad as I have, my daughter is taking Rose hip helping her joints stay as best they can ,0

Hi wendy
Welcome to the forum.
I was also 25 when I was diagnosed with RA (48 now) but I was the first in our family  .
I hope when your bloods come back they can give you the right meds to help with your discomfort.
Take care

Hello, agatesw23, I hope things are as OK for you today as they can be. A slightly raised CRP figure could mean anything - even just having a bruise somewhere will result in a higher inflammatory marker. Continued inflammation is, however, one of the symptoms of an immune-system based arthritis (I had very high CRP and ESR levels) but I never showed a postive rheumatoid factor (my version of this dross doesn't). Given your family history you do seem a likely candidate for it - so much for 'stuff can skip generations' eh? Everyone begins their arthritis journey in their own way - someone recently did a thread on chitchat about just this thing.
On the plus side for you the doctors are aware of what is happening and trying to find out. On the minus side - well, it could be early RA (or another sort of inflammatory arthritis, there are many sorts) and the sooner they find out and get you on the meds the better. Feel free to ask us any questions you like - we know our stuff on here about meds, treatment, pain relief etc! I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Wendy
The results will come back soon and you dont have too long to wait I hope.
The signs you mention are surely a sign that something is not right and even if the bloods are negative I hope they will be able to help you. I'm sure they will.
I am glad you have found us at any rate as we do have some useful ideas to help. Foir instance you could get your jeans button sewn on with elastic so you dont have to undo them? Just pull 'em up?
Love
