Morning everyone , i feel like i am at the end of my tether. Some may remember me , I have been diagnosed with imflamatory arthritis, probably sjorgrens syndrome , raynards and underactive thyroid .I also have OA and need my other knee replaced .
I am starting a RA med on the 22nd of this month but i am so low , i have nothing left this has been going on 7 years. I seem to go one inch forward and a foot back . I strugled back to health after my two joints replacements and then after the thyroid which really made me ill , but i seem to have run out of steam.
I have been reading about the meds for RA and it sounds like it will be 12 weeks before that gets better and then a lot of people are still ill .
I know i sound like i am soft but I'm not my son was killed 10 years ago on a motor bike at 27 it was like the end of the world to my husband and myself and 7 years ago i nursed my mother for 6 months while she was dying with lung cancer , so i do know you have to pick yourself up and get on with life.
I am 61 and feel like i am 90 , nothing gives me pleasure anymore it is all pain and feeling ill. My husband is so good but he is feeling down now .
Well thats me down and out , sorry but i needed to get it out . .........jilly

hi jilly just the place to get that off your chest no wonder you feeling so down it winter you in pain your oh feeling down so why would you feel any different but it does not always take 12 weeks to start to feel a difference with meds so chin up and even if it does well it will be summer and you will get to enjoy it with less pain try to get some better pain meds to see you through and plan something you both enjoy even if it only half an hour in the park you need something to look foward to hugs for now valval0

We all get down from time to time, but now you have a place to come and tell us and we will do what we can to help.
They have to give a timescale for the meds I suppose 'cos they don't work like other pills and potions from the doctors. We all vary so much in how we react so honestly we cannot give you any guidlelines about when you will feel a difference or how much of a difference there will be. Are you starting methotrexate? That does get a very bad press but I have had little trouble from it. It can be effective earlier than 12 weeks, and you will have blood tests so they can measure your body's reaction to it: they are a bind but an essential bind. There are quite a few on here who are doing very well with meth - if they have caught your RA early enough (and hopefully they have) I think you stand a better chance of success with it than if it is given later down the line. Let's hope so, yes?
Life does knock us back on a very regular basis. It's how we react to and deal with those knocks that makes us who we are. Everyone can thrive on success and good fortune, that's a given, but dealing with setbacks is far harder. You know your essential character - you just need some time out from the fight. Be kind to yourself, don't be too hard on yourself, you are dealing with a huge amount of ill-health at the moment so it's no wonder it is getting you down. You will come through this, it will just take time. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi jilly, i dont doubt that you have been able to 'pick' yourself up before but some times we may need out side help for a while. Have you spoken to your doc about how you are feeling? This forum is great for getting things off your chest and I find just admitting that im down to my self and to others on here can help pick me up a bit. Its a struggle day to day, focus on the now and try not to think about the 12 weeks before your meds kick in. Try something new that you and your OH can do together, doesnt have to be a big thing or expensive, jigsaws, a new music CD, these are obviously just suggestions, its easy for me to sit here and suggest but totally different for you to try especially when feeling low,
I wish you all the best and i hope you keep posting to let us know how you are.

Thanks everyone , I just need to have myself back , i dont know this person i have become. I also know my husband is really down to, we have a small business which i have worked in for 24 years . We have had 6 years of down turn and it is a struggle to keep going with that . So my poor husband is having to struggle with me and that. He seems so fedup .If we had just one thing going well in life i think we could both feel better. Money is in short supply and working for yourself means you have to keep going there is nothing else for it until we can retire.
Anyway again you have helped me thanks , i know i am just one of thousands struggling with this illness. You have helped just being there and perhaps as DD says i might not be so bad on the meds and feel better sooner. .........jilly0 -
i feel for anyone running there own buisness it just starts to pick up and wham something happens to slow things back down where i work it was picking up a treat then fuel bills started to come through doors and every one stops buying keep going things will improve eventually hugs valval0

The DD of 2011 is a very different woman to the DD of 1996, so I can emapthise with that. (My arthritis started in 1997 ) My little business is grinding to a halt, courtesy of a mixture of arthritis and recession, but so be it. I can only do what I can do, and although that decreases steadily I am still doing what I can. Arthritis brings emotional pressures, financial pressures, it adds stress and difficulty to already complicated lives, it is a beast of a disease.
I am not promising you success on the meds, not by any means (no-one can) but there is a chance that they will help, there is always a chance when one starts something new. Regard it as a chance too - not a dead cert. Dead certs often fail to perform - possibilities sometimes come good. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi, I'm so sorry that you've had so much to cope with. You sound so depressed, can you talk to your GP about it all? It may be that councilling would help you. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of councelling, having once spent a fortune on it but if you want to talk about things with someone you can trust and who will offer some form of help it might be the thing for you. I think mine didn't work so well as I want in with a closed mind at the time! You sound a very strong person, but the strongest of us need support sometimes or we break.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you find the right help for you and soon find yourself feeling a lot better. Love Suexxxx0 -
Hi Jilly,
I am sorry that your feeling so down flower. That's a lot of knocks and it all accumulates at best but chuck in a while chunk of feeling unwell and it really hits.
The meds sometimes work very quickly so the 12-14 weeks thing may not be the case. If they agree and work for you it can make all the difference and I hope that they will do wonders for you cus that will help with how your feeling so much.
Its sometimes hard enough to hold everything together without uncertainty and I so hope the new meds will be both very effective and quick to help you. Cris x0 -
Hi jilly,
oh dear you really do sound down and I am not surprised with what you have had to cope with over the years.
I hope the new medication doesn't take long to start taking effect.
I just want to send you my best wishes and say please stay strong the jilly you know is just around the corner.
Take care

Hi Jilly
I really feel for you truly, hopefully, the support from this site and the fabulous forum members will help you through this very bad time your going through. I was told many years ago "that people don't know what your going through unless your actually tell them" we all take people for granted sometimes and become a little complacent. Part of assisting our problems are others understanding where we are coming from. DD hits the nail on the head with comments. I wish you well Jilly, support isn't far away on this site. Good Luck.
Regards
John0
