Hi everyone,
As you will remember I had 10 weeks off work due to my arther playing up and it was eventually agreed that I could return on a phased basis and have done 2 weeks of working four hours a day

Today I have had my review meeting- I was quite nervous, the purpose of the meeting was to look at increasing my hours and I knew that at the moment this was not an option the four hours have been hard enough, and I thought that there was a real risk that they may finish me on grounds of competency in that I am unable to fufil the terms of my contract.

However, it seems that my manager having observed me over the past two weeks realises that I simply wouldn't manage to continue to up my hours and eventually work full time. I asked about possible job share and I was firmly told no! But --- she has offered me a completely new role! working in the Emergency Response Team part - time. I am so relieved! She says that she now realises that I can't do as I did before, but wants to use my experience effectively and thinks that this would be a suitable alternative for me.

I am really happy about this, there is obviously going to be a finacial penalty working part time but it at least means I can get my life back on track and it will mean I can have rest too.

I also had my Hydro appt this morning which was good and following the assessment they have finally decided that I need a walking stick, which they have promptly ordered!

I am a happy girl tonight!
Cath

I am so pleased for you! So she does have a heart after all - oh caterina, what a relief: you still have a job, a job you can physically manage and they appear to have respected your health (both the good bits and the bad) and obviously they don't want to lose you. Oh this is grand news indeed. OK, the money may be an issue but it is so good to hear that someone has noticed what you can do and reacted in such a positive way. Yippee!

Glad the hydro was pleasant and remember to use the stick on the opoosite side to the problem.

    Yippee! DD

So pleased for you hun. I am glad that you have had some positive news today. Its good to hear that your boss values you within the workplace and that she has come up with an alternative for you.

Personally I think health is more important than money so having a pay cut because of going part time is nothing. Ok you will have to rethink your spending (no more buying shoes and handbags on a whim) but I am sure that you will cope.

    So pleased for you

Thanks everyone, I had been very stressed about this meeting I really did think I would be finished, which would be a disaster. And it has not been easy at work either, there has been an atmosphere......But I was determined that I was not going to back down about working the excessive hours I had been doing and that is down to you all for being supportive through these past weeks.

I know having a reduced salary will be difficult but I really do think that my long term health is more important

Your health has to last for as long as possible: yes, less money will not be easy but at least you will be feeling better and coping better. It will be a different kind of stress perhaps but overall, I think, a better/easier/more pleasant stress (delete as applicable!) DD
