Hi

Has anyone else been to see a performance broadcast live onto a cinema screen via a satellite link :?: I think it's a brilliant idea, and recently I've seen two first class performances for a fraction of the price of attending the theatres in London.

I saw a National Theatre production of King Lear, with Derek Jacobi, which was really wonderful, and tonight I've seen the opera, Carmen, from the Royal Opera House. It was shown in 3D, so you could almost imagine that you were actually there. Another NT play which is showing is 'Frankenstein', directed by Danny Boyle, which has been highly acclaimed, and in June, they will be showing Chekhov's 'The Cherry Orchard' starring Zoë Wanamaker.

These broadcasts aren't widely advertised, but you can find information about them on these links.

    Hi Cris

A music concert would be excellent shown in this way, so I'll have to look out for one if they do another one. The good thing about watching these broadcasts at the cinema in Derby where I go is that the seats are those really comfortable rocking ones with lots of leg-room. They're far better than most theatre seats.

Thanks for the hugs for me and Tommy. I hope you are OK, and Tommy sends a big purr to you and all your lodgers and employers.

    Hi Val

You are right about theatres. Some of them charge a lot for quite poor seats, although I do like going to the theatre when possible. But to go to these London performances, it would be very expensive, and the cinema is good value as you get an excellent view. The one in Derby is brand-new, so very comfortable, and you can even have popcorn too :!:

Do they still do a double seat in the back row for lovers?

They do indeed, but not just the back row. Here in Derby, we've got a whole cinema of leather double seats

I've just seen that they are going to show the ballet, ‘Giselle’ in 3D from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Peterburg. Great :!: That's one I won't miss.
